    Re: Pune

It would appear we're going to have a classic photo finish tomorrow. Shanglei Lu appears to have the better tie-breaks at the moment.

And here are the final (R13) pairings.

      Re: Pune

ChessBase reports today in their WJCC 2014 report that Matej Blajeka from Croatia had been improbably paired all 12 rounds with players from India. Looking at tomorrow's pairings, Matej is going to run the table (:

        Re: Pune

Shanglei Lu, or more correctly, Lu Shanglei, who likely would have won Gold with a draw, won in style with his beloved Dutch Defence. The other two top boards both drew so Lu Shanglei finishes clear 1st with 10/13. Complete final standings can be found at the following link.

I think I'll nominate Lu Shanglei for the 2014 Cajones Award for his 1. ...f5 today. First on tie-breaks heading into the final round he opts for an opening he almost never draws (only one single draw at chessgames.com), with tantamount numbers of wins and losses. Gotta love this all or nothing approach and definitely my kind of player (:
