General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
My good friend and fellow chess player Jaime Humberto Soils died suddenly.

If any updates are sent to me I'll post here on Chess Talk.
Jaime's last Chess tournament was at Kitchener in the Canadian Seniors 65+ section.

Rest In Peace.
I am sorry to hear that. Jamie was one of the first players I met in tournaments in Calgary back in the 1970s. My condolences to his family and friends.
Re: Jaime Humberto Solis has passed away 1944-2014
Very sad news John. I always looked forward to my games against Jaime. He fought tenaciously over the board. Sometimes adopting a defensive posture only to punish you for a poorly executed attack. He caught me several times. I will miss the challenge.
We had a moment of silence for Jaime at the Campbellville tournament yesterday.
Re: Jaime Humberto Solis has passed away 1944-2014
My condolences, John, to both you and Jaime's family. Surprisingly, Jaime and I never met over the chessboard despite being in the same section on a number of occasions. My first and most vivid memory of Jaime is at the 2010 Canadian Open (one big section!) here in Toronto where Jaime was helping analyse, with tremendous chess passion I must add, a drawn Scandinavian game just played by me and another good friend of the two of you, Ian Finlay. Jaime's great passion for the game will be sorely missed.
Not that it's the least bit important now, but I notice that FIDE has a different middle name for Jaime. I'm assuming your Humberto is either correct or that Jaime had 2 middle names.
Re: Jaime Humberto Solis has passed away 1944-2014
I'm sorry to hear about Jaime's passing. He was often present at many of the tournaments that I attended including the recently concluded Canadian Senior and the Canadian Open. He seemed like a very nice guy. Condolences to family and friends.
Re: Jaime Humberto Solis has passed away 1944-2014
Thank you for posting and keeping me updated. Jaime played at the St. Catharines Chess Club and he was always there when the club closed. I played many games against him. He was quick at the board and always seemed to know when to strike and beat you. I will miss seeing him at the club and hope that the pain he had is now gone.
Re: Jaime Humberto Solis has passed away 1944-2014
I played Jamie twice, once in a Canadian Open in Toronto and just last month at the Canadian Open in Montreal. He also sat with my wife and myself at the Canadian Open banquet in Victoria in 2012. He was a nice fellow and always went out of his way to say hello to me.
Re: Jaime Humberto Solis has passed away 1944-2014
This is a shock. I played Jaime several times at all forms of chess over 40 years! (speed chess, active, regular tournament, we even discussed blindfold) I am glad I said hello and goodbye to him at the recent Canadian Seniors. He sure loved his chess and seemed to be always there at tournaments. RIP Jaime - you will be missed.
Re: Jaime Humberto Solis has passed away 1944-2014
R.I.P. Jaime
Condolences to his family, friends of the church and chess kind.
Chile has given birth to some great fighters.
Jaime defeated a prognosis of death when some ten years ago they said you have only a few months. He quit everything to fight against that ailment . His knowledge of medicine attained great depth. He will forever be a symbol of a fighter..
Re: Jaime Humberto Solis has passed away 1944-2014
That's a beautiful tribute Mario. He was a fighter alright. I am glad he was able to play in the Seniors' this year. He punched above his weight, and gained 22 points in his final tournament. I will miss this kind unassuming gentleman.
Re: Jaime Humberto Solis has passed away 1944-2014
This is sudden and unexpected. Jaime looked fine and played well in the Canadian Seniors this year and I was glad I had the opportunity to talk with him a couple of times over the event.
My condolences to Jaime's family and friends.
R.I.P. Jaime, you will be missed.
BTW, I posted the games for the Seniors 65+ on my website at: http://ralphsattic.blogspot.ca/
Jaime has several of his games from the tournament up for viewing.
