  • Montreal Royals Baseball... (Not chess related)

Can anyone help me with some information? I have a hazy memory of attending a baseball game between the International League All-Stars and the Brooklyn Dodgers at Delormier Stadium around 1956. I can't trace the game via GOOGLE, but, am not sure how to use the keywords to get any results.

If you are aware of any information on this game, I would appreciate a URL.

    Thanks!

      According to this link:

      http://www.walteromalley.com/thisday_06_13.php

There was the Hector Racine Memorial night at De Lorimier stadium on the 13th of June 1956. Many Brooklyn Dodgers executives attended because Racine had ties with them.

It's not like I was there or anything, but that might be the game you're looking for.

The June 13, 1956 game was a regular game (Richmond 6, Royals 2) with a memorial plaque being presented by O'Malley. See the Montreal "Gazette" of June 14, 1956, page 41.

It looks like the game you were at may have been on August 19, 1957, in which the Dodgers beat the All-stars 2-1 in 11 innings (in Montreal). Again - the "Gazette" of the following day has a complete report.

Thank you both. Interesting reading and the score and # of innings was my memory, so that is the game. Amazing what one remembers from childhood almost 60 years ago. I appreciate this!

I remember my dad taking my brother and I to see the Toronto Maple Leafs AAA ball club at the Maple Leaf Stadium at the foot of Bathurst Street in Toronto. This would have been in the mid-1960s. The team was the farm club of the Boston Red Sox at the time, I believe, and I remember Willie Horton playing and Dick Williams managing the club. Much earlier in time there was a ballpark on Toronto Island, and this is where Babe Ruth hit his first professional home run! But I am not that old.

You guys who had Triple A ball had it good. Our Winnipeg Goldeyes, whom I like going to watch back then, were C ball for awhile and then Single A. They were the St. Louis farm team. Not many make it to the big show from those teams but some did.

Some of the other teams were St. Cloud, Minot and a few other cities in the U.S. I forget them all.
