    Hello Scott,

Good to hear from you! Please give our kind regards to Aki and Kai.

My understanding of the events is the following. The USCF was toying with an idea of creating its own dedicated chess server for members for quite a long time. Meanwhile, open alternatives, whether free (FICS, Chess.com) or paid and well-reputed (ICC, Chessbase), were attracting hundreds of thousands of players. When FIDE created its Online Arena and allowed players to have "official" online ratings last year, the USCF understood that they were very late to the party, and started seeking partnership with one of the established actors. Hence, the present announcement. It would be interesting to learn what are the business terms for each side; hope more details will emerge.

I agree with you completely that it would be quite interesting to see whether the CFC can strike a similar agreement with one of the existing chess servers. ( In fact, it was a motivation for me to post the announcement. ;-) I recall that there was a recent thread touching on the server issue, but it got sidetracked. ) Indeed, this country's geography is practically begging for such an arrangement!

I've read that Larry B. and Victoria J.-D. have a pilot project in works where highly rated scholastic players across the country (B.C <--> ON <--> QC) would play in a supervised environment via one of chess servers, and these games would be rated by the CMA. As with many things, Larry is a trailblazer - maybe we'd be able to learn more from his experience. - If you can volunteer for that, too, it would be great! :-)

It would be a great venue for us here in the backwoods of B.C. if the CFC could manage this kind of action. It would bring in new members.
    How do they do this?

Come to think of it, isn't this forum a good place to wrangle volunteers. I bet the CFC needs a volunteer to coordinate wrangling volunteers. Another thread.
Is there anyone who knows here. Not just speculation but fact.
I would volunteer and look into this...If it's an option.

USCF & Internet Chess Club Join Forces to Provide Online Rated Chess!

    October 4, 2014

The Internet Chess Club (ICC) and the United States Chess Federation (USCF) are delighted to announce the start of USCF online rated tournaments on the ICC!

We warmly welcome you to join our inaugural tournament, which will be held:
Monday, October 6, 2014. 7:00 PM ICC Server time (EST)

    The tournament will be a:
    · Blitz rated tournament
    · 7 round Swiss
    · 3+2 time control
    · Random giveaway prizes, including ICC membership time!

These tournaments will be held using a New and Official USCF Online Blitz Rating, which will be available to all current USCF members.

ICC Vice-President Marty Grund of the Internet Chess Club told CLO, "This partnership has a positive impact on the value of both memberships. There's a new member benefit which is real, tangible and it fulfills a market need we know exists. I'm also excited about the social aspect, the competition, the mingling etc."

To join the tournament, you will need a valid ICC and USCF membership.
