    Re: Tata Steel

Aronian is blitzing Wojtaszek on Radoslaw's 28th birthday. Levon has played his first 20 moves in negative 6 minutes and 21 seconds (thus a total of 3 minutes and 39 seconds of actual thinking time) and has an hour plus time advantage in an otherwise equal position. These time advantages used to work ever so well for Levon but not so much as late who has lost his 2800 plus status (2789.5 live) in recent months.

Giri remains the answer to the question, 'Who has never lost to the World Champion (of chess) but has never beaten the Women's World Champion?' Giri grabbed a quick 3-peat after just 20 moves today and now is plus zero, minus 2, and equal 4 against Hou. Against Carlsen, Giri is plus 1, minus zero, and equal 6.

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave doesn't seem to operate well on Planet Ivanchuk. Against Carlsen and Caruana, MVL is a composite minus one in 18 matches (plus 2, minus 2, equal 7 against Caruana; and plus 1, minus 2, equal 4 against Carlsen). Against Chucky, Maxime remains winless after today's loss with zero wins, 3 losses, and 3 draws.

Mig Greengard once said at his blog, in his wont tongue-in-cheek manner, that Radjabov should be the only GM allowed to play the KID. Surely today though, he should substitute Ding Liren for Radjabov. Radjabov has surely passed the KID torch since Ding Liren is not only higher rated than Teimour (2742.3 vs 2728.1), but he's beating Teimour at his own opening. Ding Liren is now a perfect 2/2 against Teimour with his KID win today and held a draw as White in their 3rd KID encounter. - the headline, " young American beats the crap out of the experienced Russian GM"

            - he did not beat "the crap out". Both sides made numerous mistakes.

            - actually they played for 40-50 moves all first computer lines, what mistakes you are talking about, maybe ...e4 was anti-positional

            - Great game. Bravo Sam!

I'm very much looking forward to the R5 clash on Thursday (after the Wednesday rest day) between the 2 hottest players here, both with 3 game winning streaks, Ivanchuk and Ding Liren. They've yet to meet with classical time controls and have split 3 short time events with 3 different results. Ding Liren, who has yet to draw a game at Tata Steel, is the betting favourite at 9/4 (Ding to win) vs 27/5 (Chucky to win). The draw odds are 4/6.

The Chinese player is simply a machine in the KID. I personally can't remember how many wins against elite opposition I've seen. His understanding of this opening might be the best in the world at the moment. Even though, one could argue, it is actually his opponent, Teimour Radjabov, who is the best KID player in the world!

It's enlightening that you can see imaginary threats to some imaginary world that you've conjured up, but you can't see the real threats to your very real world.

Whatever Taylor Swift's original intention for these lyrics may have been, I doubt it was what you present, that the lyrics be used to justify any belief system whatsoever. After all, it leaves out any determination of who 'the trolls' really are. According to the lyrics, it could be anyone who disagrees with you.

I wonder if you even realize that what you post here can be used against you... such as someone who might, say, do a character assassination of you to convince parents not to let their kids anywhere near you because of your beliefs. On the other hand, your beliefs do tap into a populist sentiment that we can just dismiss our 'haters' and go on doing whatever we want to do, world be damned, conscience be damned. In fact, this belief system proclaims that the more haters one has, the more proof that one is on the 'correct' path. It's an easy system to get duped into, as history has proven time and time again. Any such character assassination attempt would be risky given how easy and gullible most people are.

So easy, so simplistic, to just take some lyrics and use them to justify your beliefs. Let those with eyes to see and ears to hear know that this is your CFC leader Vlad Drkulec.
                    Only the rushing is heard...

Radoslaw Wojtaszek is certainly making a name for himself (other than as Anand's 2nd) after knocking off both Carlsen and Caruana. This interview is dated (2010) but doesn't seem to have been posted here previously and does tell us how to pronounce his name (:

                                January 15, 2015

The commentators are Yasser Seirawan and Tex de Wit. At one point Yasser says that Victor Korchnoi insulted every player of note and when Yasser pointed out a line to him that was correct, Victor said, “Even a blind chicken can find the corn”.

The first game to finish is Ding-Ivanchuk:

                                Tata Steel Masters
                                Round 5, Jan. 15, 2015
                                Ding, Liren – Ivanchuk, Vassily
                                D30 QGD, (3..c6)

Giri-Jobava is interesting in that the last time they played, Jobava accused Giri of disrespecting him ironically. Play is equal until Jobava moves away his bishop on move 33, which leads to a nasty knight fork or a win for White. Jobava is criticized for another blunder and one viewer says, “Stop criticizing Jobava! He and Chuky are the only humans there.”

Yasser to Anish: It was a scary game right? We found all sorts of beautiful mating positions in the middlegame for Black, which you avoided.
Vladimir Tukmakov, Giri’s trainer, is in the audience and helps with some analysis. Jobava, strangely, is there too.

(Daniel Gormally (tweet)) – I think if I had Giri’s position here, my brain would explode through pure fear.

(Jan Gustafsson (tweet)) – Stuff like 22…Nh4!! in Giri-Jobava makes the KID so scary. 23. gxh4? Rh6 and mate!

Carlsen is +1 with three blacks so far, so he feels good about his position in the tournament. Tomorrow he plays Caruana.

Caruana is having a hard time against Wojtaszek. Will the Pole take down Nos 1 and 2 in a Dutch?

(Jan Gustafsson (tweet)) – Note to self: never play the Dutch versus Wojtaszek. He will win the a-pawn for no compensation.

Jobava joins Seirawan at the commentators’ table. Yasser compares him to the great attacking player of the past, Rashid Nezhmetdinov.
Later Dutch WIM Lisa Schut comes on pushing an organization for chess for women, Chess Queens. After her spiel, Tex says, “Thank you. I am not sure why women who don’t play chess would be watching this transmission but thank you”. Something to think about.

It looks like So-Hou is heading for a draw
