  • World Olympiad for Canada?

The title of this thread should read >>>>World U-16 Olympiad for Canada

This seems like a worthwhile event to stage in Canada. We have the organizers with the experience with junior events. We have the juniors as has just been demonstrated in Hungary. And finding sponsors for a junior event should be much easier than for a senior event. As it was apparent from the Hungary event, the host country can field any number of teams - ten teams from Canada would be reasonable.

    Questions:
Is the event held on alternate years?
Does FIDE see this as another Cash Cow and take a prohibitive chunk of the funds raised?

I don't know much about the event, but the answer to your second question is obviously yes.

I love the idea Vlad. The tricky part is the hosting costs for one team per Federation, and Canada is above average in that sense. FIDE does charge a head tax but that is a small part of the budget. I think a more viable event would be one that does not exist yet - namely the World U12 Olympiad. More accompanying people to help defray costs.
