The tournament has traditionally run FRIDAY - SATURDAY - SUNDAY.
In discussion with many teachers last year, the request to shorten the tournament was made repeatedly.
We were running the final round on Sunday, with awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

This year, we are trying it out - dropping Sunday, reducing the time control to allow 3 games each day.
This means that - where we used to start Friday afternoon - we must start Friday morning.

We do not consider this "skipping classes".
Consider all other school championships - track & field, various sports - they are always run on school days.
True, students who participate in championships and other field trips must miss some classes.
It is understood that they will make appropriate arrangements with their teachers.

      ENTRIES HAVE STARTED: http://www.ohscc.on.ca/entries.php

How many players this year? - record 250 I believe in 1972 !

      How many teams?

It is an individual swiss in 3 sections - Championship, Intermediate, Beginner - a place for players at at all skill levels.

It if officially - mainly - for students in grades 7 ("junior high") through 12.

But we have always welcomed younger players - there is after all no official elementary championship.
In 2014, 11 out of 32 Beginners were from grade 0 (kindergarten) through 6.

      TEAM PRIZES TOO:
In each section, a team consists of 3 or more players from the same school - the top 3 count for the team score.

      COMBINED TEAM:
A combined team consists of 1 or more players in all three sections from the same school - team score is the sum of the scores of the school's top player in each section.

thank you Chris for the reply. I have another question, can a junior high student join high school chess club team in this tournament?
