General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Not only that, but there can be tricks played with the data, intentionally or not (much like a chess annotator can make an unsound opening look playable). One time I heard a denier explain that there had been a record Global Average Temperature (let's call this GAT) declared for a certain recent year. It was, say, the previous record GAT plus 0.X degrees. What was not mentioned in the announcement (or by the generally left wing media) was that the margin of error was more than 0.X degrees.
I suppose 2014 was the year the denier that I listened to the other day was refering to, along with NASA being the announcer originally (at least they later admitted they might have got things wrong). Here's one link (another one I wanted to use caused me problems):

At first I just could not believe what I was reading! I fail to understand the point of this report. Who cares if 2014 was the warmest year, or if it was tied with 2010 and 2005? This is completely irrelevant. Who wrote this by the way?

The point is perhaps that it is an example of the 'science' gone wrong (if one trusts it in the first place), and that perhaps not all deniers are necessarily making false claims. Indeed, 2014 was touted as a record, i.e. a sign that things are heating up to this day. I still wonder, why not be more open and continue to call the controversy global warming, if indeed overall warming is supposed to be involved, and be the most significant aspect by far? In fact, 'Global warming' perhaps should still be a better sell (from the point of view of urgency) to the public, if there is indeed real consensus that it is still happening. Anyway, possibly the point of the report was only to mention certain facts that are given; the website could be just a place to provide any kind of updates on matters at all pertaining to the controversy.
I did not see any names attached within the link I gave, although one can commit oneself by emailing the 'contact' given in order to enquire. Perhaps it was a 'shady' denier site, though the story may be true word for word at least for once. Like I alluded to, there were other search results for googling 'is record global average temperature for 2014 within margin of error', but my computer practically crashed while it was finishing loading a site I liked the look of better, apparently because of the script (though sometimes I wonder about malware being involved when I go to a site involving a controversial topic that crashes my computer).

Re: Re : Re: Re : Re: Re : Re: Global climate change
Anthropogenic Global warming is a joke and a hoax and a religion. The people promoting this often openly, or in the leaked climategate emails, admit that they feel that lying, adjusting, obscuring, hiding or even destroying data to further the cause is a legitimate tactic. They are entitled. They are also entitled not to follow the discipline that they seek to impose on the rest of the great unwashed because they are on a holy mission for Gaia, their goddess.
Too bad this respect for their goddess does not result in respect for women who are simply objects that the newly powerful priests of the state religion can use at their own whim.

...
I've heard that Suzuki is into that sort of religious belief, too.
To be fair, there is also belief that one of the signs that we may be in the End Times is that the world's weather will be out of kilter. If so, it could be caused by man, or otherwise.
