Re : Re: Re : Re: Continental Championships Uruguay

Anton and Eric would both be qualified for the World Cup if they won today. If they draw, the tiebreaks will decide (not quite sure what they are).
Anton seems to have very good results with White so far, so we can hope he continues this way. Eric is playing with Black against the highest-rated player of the tournament, so a win will not be easy, but at least he seems to have Robin Van Kampen to help him prepare :)

Re : Re: Continental Championships Uruguay

Mareco, Cori and Granda Zuniga are already qualified for the World Cup. I believe this means Perez, Flores, Iturrizaga and Kovalyov will play in a round-robin tournament (rapid games) for the remaining 3 spots... So, as long as Kovalyov doesn't finish last in this tournament, he is qualified for the World Cup!

Eric's game was very sharp today ; it is very unfortunate he couldn't win. He might now want to try to qualify in the Canadian Zonal instead.

Turns out there are 8 players tied at 8.0, not 6 as in Wayne's post. This means that only 3 of 6 players will be qualified for the World Cup. Live games are here : https://arena.chessdom.com/#/stream_...ments/show/769

It seems like GM Kovalyov qualified for the World Cup, scoring 3/5 in the tiebreaks (he probably could have won his last game, but a draw was sufficient). It will be interesting to see who will be the second Canadian at the World Cup (winner of the Canadian Zonal).

Eric was so close. I enjoyed his games and videos. He is really making an effort and its eventually going to pay off. The bonus is I'll probably get to see him at the Canadian Championship. Congratulations also to GM Anton Kovalyov.
