  • Valeant Pharmaceuticals and Chess...

There was a great piece in the Globe & Mail yesterday about this Quebec based pharmaceuticals giant. A fellow by the name of "Andrew Davenport and his brother Matthew, seems to play some role or other in most if not all of the chess-named companies" affiliated to Valeant. The distribution companies carry names like Philidor, Isolani, End Game and BQ6 (which apparently is a reference to Fischer's Opening Moves?).

Yes, Larry, I saw it in a paper edition, the journalists tried to explain chess terms to a wider public and speculated about the significance of chess references.

There was also an accompanying graphic on the front page of the business section which purported to show "chess moves". The pieces were of four different colours. :p

They should probably consider a different strategy, considering their tanking stock price :)

Valeant has now severed relations with Philidor.

Valeant’s relationship with Philidor has come under close scrutiny, partly because of the aggressive tactics Philidor has used

I thought Philidor was a passive defense.

It's tempting to short the stock right now, especially with rumours of more shady behaviour from this company...
