General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
It all makes sense now. Keep up the good work lads!
I was thinking Orville Redenbackers' popcorn, but your focus seems to be elsewhere.
It's the last super tuesday, how will Bernie do?
The media has already called the primary for Clinton. Shame!
Tickets are on sale now. The mini-tour will be called 'The Piper at the Gates of the Donald'. Let's see you trump that!
Concert will be held on the USA / Mexican border and there will be a 1-hour rendition of "Another Brick In the Wall". Yes, the big beautiful Trump Horizontal Tower that Mexico will be paying for.
And of course, the classics "Us and Them" and "Money" will also get extra play.
An interesting interview of LBJ's Ad Men suggests "going nuclear" on Trump to scare the voters, much as they were successful in scaring the voters about Barry Goldwater back in 1964.
LBJ's Ad Men on Beating Trump
Interesting. Thank you for that first link. I remember those days quite well. I was 13 in 1964 and, like a lot of kids my age, my interest in American politics was kick started the previous fall when Kennedy was assassinated. The fear of nuclear war was something tangible. Contractors were selling new homes with a bomb shelter option for the basements. I remember very clearly the concerns about Goldwater. Now it seems that those concerns were played upon and overblown by LBJ's (brilliant) campaign chiefs. But back then, at the height of the Cold War, my recollection is that a potential Goldwater presidency was cause for fear. A potential Trump presidency is not the same thing. Trump is a buffoon. He is the darling of people who feel let down by mainstream American politicians, right and left. But Trump has nothing serious to say. He simply caters to the lowest common denominator. Thanks again.

Robert: What are the inherent advantages and disadvantages of running against a guy who has no experience, and has never held public office?
Lloyd: My opinion is that Trump is suffering from what I call “Attention-Seeking Deficit Disorder.” He doesn’t want to serve. He doesn’t want to be president; he wants the attention that accompanies the campaign. And now, I think he’s rather afraid that he might win. [Laughs] I don't think he knows what he’s going to do as president.
But this is interesting too.
Robert: Both of you came to respect Goldwater, right?
Lloyd: I did.
Sid: Yeah, yeah.
Lloyd: I admired his conduct in many ways. Of course, I disagreed with him very strongly on major issues.
Sid: Absolutely. He was authentic. He wasn’t a con artist. Don’t forget that Trump is a real-estate salesman — he’ll tell you anything that he wants in order to close the deal.
Rumour has it that Trump has convinced Gilmour and Waters to re-form. They will be playing a series of gigs in the southwestern states before playing at his inauguration.

They could provide him with concrete, rebar, and forms and tell him to get his racist ass busy building that wall. :)
p.s. They could run it as a reality show - see how far the Donald could get that wall in four years!

*Nobody* knows what Trump would be like as President. He is currently saying whatever he thinks will win him votes, regardless of how many feet he has to put in his mouth to get his message across. If Hillary becomes President it will probably be much status-quo, probably a shift to the right in some areas. If Sanders becomes President you will see a shift to the left and probably some serious administration difficulties. If Trump becomes President you will see a shift to the left and a shift to the goofy, and all bets would be off the table.
Steve
Wouldn't Trump, without a strong base of political support in the House and Senate, simply be ineffective as President? If the Republicans win majorities in both bodies maybe the congressmen (and women) and senators will run the show via caucus and leave Trump in the background and largely ignored. They could provide him with concrete, rebar, and forms and tell him to get his racist ass busy building that wall. :)

Reason: hi
I disagree. I think Trump's original idea was terrific. Trump and Sanders share some common ground. Foreign "entanglements" and trade to name two things.
Trump has the opportunity to look Presidential, even a bit deferential/agreeable to Sanders (and his supporters). He can paint himself as anti-establishment and therefore the logical choice for those Sanders supporters who want change. Finally, he looks generous in giving Sanders a chance to get his word out there to the nation. The ratings for such a debate would be YUUUUUGE. Raising a pile of money for say women's shelters wouldn't hurt Trump, either.
