  • 2017 CYCC & Canadian Open website

Preliminary information for the 2017 CYCC and Canadian Open in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario can now be found at ssmchess.ca. Additional details will continue to be added with registration opening in late 2016.

    A few highlights:

    - A five day CYCC which runs over a weekend (Thursday -> Monday), allowing for greater rest and preparation before the last three rounds.

    - $50 000 prize fund ($40 000 guaranteed through fundraising already completed) for the Canadian Open, with norm possibilities in the top section. Canadian GMs and IMs (as well as a number of foreign GMs / IMs) will receive invitations and conditions.

    - Two schedule options - traditional nine day (one round daily) and accelerated 6 day (two rounds for 3 days, then one round daily) for the Canadian Open, with schedules merging after round 6.

    - Social / cultural events, lectures, simuls, side events (blitz / bughouse) taking place during both CYCC & CO.

    - Free transportation for all players to and from the Sault Ste. Marie airport, plus free onsite parking for those driving to the city.

You plan to use the highest of FIDE, CFC, FQE, USCF. Is that so even if (as in my case with FQE) one or more of those ratings is many years out of date?

It seems odd that in a Canadian event, some Canadians with perfectly valid CFC ratings will be enrolled using foreign ratings.
