And there is a list in Cadets championship - http://www.chess-results.com/tnr2381...flag=30&wi=984
Looks that a number of participants from Canada dropped significantly.

The system of face identification installed on the venues of the FIDE World Youth Championships 2016

        September 19, 2016

"The Leading internet provider of Russia “Rostelecom” will conduct the technical support of the system of face identification, installed by the autonomous institution “UgraMegaSport” on the venues of the FIDE World Youth U14, U16, U18 Championships 2016 in Khanty-Mansiysk.

To ensure the complex security of participants and visitors of the Championships, two checkpoints were installed for the period from September’20 until October’04. One is placed at the main entrance to the Ugra Tennis Center, another one is in hotel “Olympiyskaya”. The face identification system includes hard and software united in a single unique information environment. The system includes four cameras capable to perform identification of 10 000 faces per second.

“To make this project come true “Rostelecom” will provide the technical support of the system of face identification installed on the territories of Ugra Tennis Center and “Olympiyskaya” hotel in Khanty-Mansiysk. To ensure its non-stop work and online data exchange we have organized a special secure communication link with a maximum data transfer speed of 1 Gb per second, – said the director of Khanty-Mansiysk department of Public joint-stock company “Rostelecom” Dmitry Lukoshkov. – Our company has a well-developed telecom infrastructure, big experience and interest in installing and technical support of such complexes on other venues in Ugra. The realization of such projects gives us an opportunity to implement progressive technologies and participate in the social life of our region”.

“One of the key points for us in organizing major international sport events is providing security to their participants and visitors, – informed the executive director of the FIDE World Youth U14, U16, U18 Championships 2016 in Khanty-Mansiysk Valeriy Radchenko. – Modern technologies allow us to reach this goal more effectively. The system makes the work of police and security authorities easier and shortens the time spent on the process of checking people entering public venues. Besides, the system is able to assist in the detection of crimes made in the crowded public areas”.

For the first time the face identification system was installed by “Rostelecom” for the period of BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup Final 2015/16 in the Alexander Filipenko Winter Sports Center of Khanty-Mansiysk. This summer it was also maintained on the venue of youth forum “Utro-2016” in Nefteyugansk. First of all, such a system is of primary interest for police authorities. However, the sphere of its application is rather wide – from fugitive retrieval and searching for missing persons to location guards and customs control. In each case the technical solutions of the system are made by “Rostelecom” basing on the requirements of the customer.

One of the photos on the FIDE site features Maili-Jade Ouellet (Girls U-14) before the start of her Rd 1 game.

Michael Song is playing Mousavi Seyed Khalil, an IM from Iran. What's your prediction Jack?

Why this fellow still FM? The NAYCC gave him an automatic IM.

For those who are following the news on the WYCC at Khanty-Mansiysk, please find the link above created by Robert Song on their journey there. Very comprehensive with photos as well. The team is led by Christina Tao ( HOD ) and she is doing a wonderful job taking care of these kids.

I just received latest news that Caleb Peterson just won his round 8 game. Great start and hope it will continue.

This year participation by the players are lesser than previous year therefore the strengths of the players are stronger.

                            Cheers !!!

I hope the team is enjoying the experience. The pictures bring back many fond memories. KM sits on the bank pf the mighty Irtysh river, just a few miles south of its confluence with the mighty Ob - probably the 2 biggest rivers I had never heard of before. The land spit comes to a sharp point where the rivers meet. One could stand with a foot in each river. It's kinda on my bucket list.
