Excellent Michael. Problem solved - as soon as the event is rated.

        Great! :)

But I'm not sure that the problem is solved:
        CFC website says for Evgeny:
        Last Tournament Date: 2015-08-04
while in fact the last tournament in the CFC database is:
        2015 Chess to Remember Open 2015-09-27 A 5 2664 2595 2607 4.5

        Please note:
no mention made that the last tournament should be regular rated,
but looks like active tournament is ignored... :(

Maybe this issue could be corrected?

The fact is that playing quick (active) chess does not mean you have played in a regular rated event in the past 12 months.

I think the point is that if you have played in a rapid tournament in Canada you should be considered active because you have played in Canada.

Michael, I see what you mean. When I search for the top Active rated players who have played in the past 2 years, Evgeny's name does not come up even though his record shows that he played in the 2015 Chess to Remember. I guess Bob would have to look into that if we want it fixed.

Players need a minimum of 15 rated games to show up on the list, he only has 6.

Consider it on the "to fix" list. :)

Bob. The system works as intended. Bareev does not presently qualify for either default list.

                      LOL
The player who lead the Olympic team does not need to qualify for some arbitrary rule set. The list should show the top players, if that does not happen change ....... rules.

                        Egis,
I wish you should be making decisions...

The default rating list shows players active in the past year. That was a decision at the time the web site was developed. It is easy enough to change the criteria to satisfy your purposes.

                            Fred,
The problem is with definition of "activity"... :(
I would think, if a player represented Canada at Olympiad, he should be considered "active".
If you wish, I could propose a Motion to this effect...

How would you set the search parameters to accomplish that?
For example, would you make the default setting "played a game in the past 5 years"? If yes, you are going to get a lot of players on the top players list who don't play any more.
Is the tail wagging the dog if we re-jig the default setting to make sure Evgeny's name comes up without having to change the number of years for the search?
Why don't we use the 1996 option to ensure Spraggett and Bluvstein appear on the list? After all, they are more iconic to me than someone who has only played in two regular rated CFC event in his lifetime.

Having an activity requirement to be on a top X list is a must. Otherwise your list slowly diverges from what is really happening out there.

A few years ago, the FQE magazine had a published top rankings where more than half of the top 20 players were either officially retired or having been inactive for years (if not decades) and it even went to a point where we had some dead guys on the list.

If you haven't played any chess in the last year, you don't have any business on the top players rankings.

FIDE removes players after 1 year of inactivity.
