  • Outdoor chess in Montreal

This weekend, there will be a 5 round game-in-one-hour tournament in Montreal.

Location: under the "tent" on the Lachine Canal behind the Atwater Market. (Lionel-Groulx metro).
    5-round Swiss - 3 rounds Saturday; 2 on Sunday.
    Registration: 10-10:30 am Saturday.
    Entry fee: $20. FQE rated.
(Sets are supplied - bring your clock).

    Other Montreal outdoor chess locations:
Lafontaine Park: (Panet - north of Sherbrooke on the picnic tables). Bring your equipment. The tables are not movable - some are in the sun; some are in the shade. You're out in the open - the trees offer limited protection when it rains :-) Flies, squirrels, and kibitzers included at no extra charge :-)

Berri and Ste-Catherine - six giant sets available to the public from noon to 7 pm (weather permitting). Sign up for a game - winners stay on. Drugs of all sorts available for a nominal fee (when the cops aren't around) :-)

The city bought the sets from us and when I was speaking with them recently, they are really happy with the project. They said there are folks using the sets from morning to night! The price on these sets has come down dramatically as they are now made in China instead of Germany. Check out our website for this product. In the Search engine type the word Patio and you will also have a list of the accessories that you can purchase.
