Hey everyone! Some of you may know that the Pro Chess League Championship on Chess.com has begun and we would like for you to be apart of it! This upcoming Wednesday stop by the Maddy so we can cheer on our home team and join into the conversation with other chess players.

We have a computer, a projector and Maddy has internet (which I hope will work). If any of you have usb internet and do not mind to bring it just in case if the pub's one doesn't work as well - that will be greatly appreciated!

Lecture topic/lecturer will change every week so be sure to check back so you don't miss out! We have hosted lectures by internationally renowned players such as WGM Jennifer Shahade and GM Eric Hansen.

Tournament:

Tournament starts at 7:45 PM. There will be no money prizes, the tournament is included in the $10 club fee.

There will be the option of two time controls, blitz or rapid. Blitz - 3 minutes + 3 seconds, 5 double-round, Rapid - 8 minutes + 5 seconds, 5 rounds

I believe the Toronto Dragons start playing around 6:45 but we will be ready by 6:30 PM. Stop by anytime - we will be broadcasting for a few hours at least. Thanks so much to Liam Justice for allowing us to use his projector!

Yes. The final score was 7-9. Razvan scored 3/4 and Bator 2.5/4 though. The Chessbrahs are a strong team, but the Dragons are starting to find our form.

As much as I appreciate tournament results being posted, how about more details? I have no idea what this event is (it's not Toronto vs Montreal), and who is "Arthur" and the other anonymous players? This is the blitz tournament held in Pub Chess on Wednesday night mentioned in the first post of this thread. Arthur is IM Arthur Calugar. This Hugh might be Hugh Siddeley. Sergei is most likely Sergei (Sergi) Loiko who played in the Mississauga Open in late 2016. Liam is Liam Justice.

A lot of players have played in these events over the last year: GM Gergely Szabo, GM Razvan Preotu, IM Michael Song, IM Kaiqi Yang, IM Michael Barron, FM Mike Ivanov, FM Victor Plotkin, NM Mark Plotkin, NM Konstantin Semianiuk, NM Bill Evans, Olympian Iulia Lacau-Rodean, and of course the organizers WCM/WNM Liza Orlova and NM Geordie Derraugh.

Pub Chess organized the Toronto Rapid Open in 2015 with GM Bator Sambuev, GM Razvan Preotu, GM Thomas Roussel-Roozmon, IM Nikolay Noritsyn, IM Artiom Samsonkin, IM Kaiqi Yang, IM Tomas Krnan, IM Peter Vavrak, IM Michael Barron and IM Lawrence Day all playing.
