General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
If that is the best you have you are simply bankrupt of rational counterpoints.
1. I said a Republican politician bodyslammed a reporter who asked about healthcare.
2. I asked whom a person would label as a fascist if they were afraid of losing healthcare.
3. You responded with a link about Bill Clinton calling Obamacare "crazy," implying that such a person might label Bill Clinton as a fascist.
A. Do you agree with that basic rendering of the facts?
Let's revisit the first two things.
1. I said a Republican politician bodyslammed a reporter who asked about healthcare.
2. I asked whom a person would label as a fascist if they were afraid of losing healthcare.
B. Do you agree that I'm implying that such a person might label that Republican politician as a fascist?
Two yes-or-no questions: A and B. This should be simple and straightforward, right?

everytime it hurts, it hurts just like the first (and then you cry till there's no more tears)
Don't pay any attention to all that fraud ...you got a free Obamaphone!!!
The Lifeline program originated in 1984, during the administration of Ronald Reagan; it was expanded in 1996, during the administration of Bill Clinton; and its first cellular provider service (SafeLink Wireless) was launched by TracFone in 2008, during the administration of George W. Bush. All of these milestones were passed prior to the advent of the Obama administration.
The program -- officially known as the Lifeline Program and run by the Federal Communications Commission -- predates President Obama but received attention during his time in office when recipients began to associate the free phone with other benefits given to the poor, the paper reported.
As part of the Lifeline program, free cell phones began to be distributed to qualifying low-income recipients in late 2008, prior to the inauguration of President Barack Obama
Ugh, fucking Obama. Can't believe he hiked up taxes for this program that predated his presidency. 20+ million people losing their healthcare is NOTHING next to this.

Most of those people will lose their health care voluntarily because there is no longer a mandate forcing them to pay.

Yeah, right! They'll 'volunteer' to not be able to afford the premiums or to have pre-existing conditions. Good one, Vlad. :)
Maybe the Republicans are just borrowing from Stalin (to paraphrase): you have a poor sick person with health insurance you have no tax break for the wealthy - no health insurance, no poor sick person, but mucho tax breaks!!!

Has that happened? Has it? If not, say so. If it has already happened ...prove it. Seriously, the world is f'd up enuff without your phony Dem scare tactics.
Wasn't the Dem's failed Trump/Russia collusion scare tactic enough for you? How much more of your phony scare tactic shit are you willing to shovel simply because y'all lost the election?
If it's not too much to ask, which it probably is, please give Rand Paul a chance at influencing the repeal & place (two part of one part doesn't matter).

How's that Obamaphone? Ringing true, ain't it ;)
No doubt Lucas wss referring to what is expected to happen according to the calculations of the non- partisan Congressional Budget Office. If you have better figures, Neil, why don't you share them with us?

I'm not a Democrat. Unlike some it seems, I'm capable of being critical of people of any party. Projected numbers based on the currently proposed health care bill. You seem more interested in attributing the failures of a program to Obama, despite the fact that he was uninvolved in its creation or, as far as I can see, its updated policies. That's definitely a very important and relevant topic. You should probably tell us more about those phony Democrat scare tactics.

The fact is that most Americans under Obama Care have to pay ever increasing premiums that have more then doubled in many states for useless plans with very high deductibles that give no choice as to the care provider (something Obama promised would not be the case). Penalties for not buying the insurance is an enormous tax on a taxpayers pretax earnings. Many of the folks the budget offices puts in to the category of uninsured are the above who are stuck with legally enforced useless expensive coverage in the first place.
What would be your idea be on how to fix this problem? I have no doubt that the law needs to be repealed but the question is what to replace it with? I personally think medicaid should be expanded and in this matter i personally do not agree with the GOP that wants to return medicaid back to the State level. That being said until all the details are hashed out I will reserve judgement.
I absolutely agree with Neill that the scare tactics of the Dems has been excessive with the debunked Russia collusion theories and now this that quotes statistics based on projections without putting the data into the proper context.

'Trump - New Thread' has been captured by pirates. 'Trump - The NEW, New Thread' will now be the place where ChessTalkers can engage in civil discourse about Trump. : /
The alt-right / Trump stuff on here is getting absurd, especially coming from people who choose to live in Canada. A leader needs to be capable of critical thinking and not see the world in this "us vs them" mentality.

What's really sad is that this post got 11 replies today, while one encouraging people to post great moments in Canadian Chess got ZERO replies on our 150th birthday, as of 10:35PM.
