General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
After the disgusting display by Trump this weekend in response to the Charlottesville terror attack by White Supremists, I hope there will not be any more Pro Trump comments on chess talk.
Why would you think that? Trump supporters don't care that he's a racist.
To Donald Trump, the most racist thing in the world is black people expressing themselves.
None of this is news. All Trump supporters know this, and don't care. If they supported Trump in the first place, I see no reason why they wouldn't still. They're supporters of a Nazi sympathizer. They're supporters of a white supremacist. They always have been. It's never bothered them.
It's never bothered almost half of Americans. Don't you see that this guy and his supporters are an existential threat to the United States as we know it?
You and the current CFC President have made yourself look ignorant in these Trump threads. We all live in Canada where Trump has a 13% approval rating and from a distance most Canadians can see the US circus for what it is. You however don't seem able to grasp this or why Trump has been a complete failure so far. You throw out slogans and themes when the US is literally falling apart right now. One really has to ask what the hell you are doing in Ottawa when the great Trump revolution you believe in exists in the US not here.
The ones who look ignorant are the Trump haters and bashers as the U.S. economy heads towards zero unemployment. The most interesting statistic is that if the election were held today that Trump would still win against Hillary.
Accomplishments which will not be reversed is appointment of Gorsuch to bring balance to the Supreme Court and the appointment a number of lower level judges, withdrawal from the Paris climate accord (and the accompanying reigning in of the EPA climate change regulations) which reversed a disastrous decision for U.S. taxpayers, and the near eradication of ISIS. For Canadians approval of the Keystone pipeline was a great day for Canada. Cracking down on illegal immigration particularly in the area of criminal aliens will pay dividends for many years down the road. There will have to be health care reform as Obamacare collapses as it was designed to do.

Today a more direct condemnation of white supremecists and neo nazis was apparently forthcoming from the president.
Sid, you must be referring to the subsequent statement from the white house. It was issued from an anonymous white house spokesperson which tells us nobody had the balls to potentially offend Trump. This certainly goes in the "too little too late" column.
Maybe Trump will do better today. But I won't hold my breath.
What Lucas ... is taken as implicit/tacit encouragement of white racism.
Thanks for the lack of clarification, Peter.
And there it is again! Simply twisted!
You take what The Donald is NOT saying anyway a delusional mind wants to go with it!?
There's no end in sight ... to what he NOT saying.
But hey, just like daswani, the Dems have NO message. So of course they're going to jump on something Trump is NOT saying!!! They can't come up with anything fresh ...sigh.
When Trump condemns “hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides”, he is ...in your mind... actually implying support for whatever you want. You simply fill in the blank with Russia, White Supremacist, whatever.
Ya know, that's kinda twisted. To actually take his words of condemnation and twist them to imply support for something else. Isn't that rather delusional?
To your kind, nobody's words are safe.
Not even mine.
You realise that I'm quoting actual white supremacists who think that Trump is implicitly supporting them by failing to condemn them by name? Pretty interesting how you take this as "my kind" twisting people's words. This isn't even the first time they've said this. This has been going on for over a year now. Trump could very easily take a strong stance against this, yet he's repeatedly failed to do so. In case you missed it, here's his quote regarding Obama: "When will President Obama issue the words RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISM? He can't say it, and unless he will, the problem will not be solved!" Damn, that's some pretty good advice there! Too bad Trump is the most hypocritical man on the planet.
Oh, by the way, it's not just the white supremacists and "my kind" who have a problem with Trump's response to all of this:
Mr. Gardner on Sunday urged the president to speak out again in more forceful terms and make clear that the Republican Party does not welcome such views. A failure to do that, the senator said, makes it fair to question if Mr. Trump wants to remain popular among white nationalists.
“These groups seem to believe they have a friend in Donald Trump in the White House. … I would urge the president to dissuade these groups that he’s their friend,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“I think the president can be very clear when he wants to be, and he needs to be clear here,” he said.
The Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio was among those calling for a straightforward condemnation: Very important for the nation to hear @potus describe events in #Charlottesville for what they are, a terror attack by #whitesupremacists
What delusional democrats these Republican senators are.

What Lucas said is not delusional. Just a few minutes ago I watched a segment on the CBC news (The National) about the American white supremacy movement. They interviewed one of the movement's movers and shakers, Richard Spencer. Spencer made it clear that Trump's failure to explicitly denounce white racist groups is taken as implicit/tacit encouragement of white racism. Wake up, Neil.
Yesterday I looked at various outlets and forums that support Trump and/or white supremacy. I didn't see one single mention of Trump condemning white supremacy or anything associated with it. Instead, I saw people talking about how he specifically didn't mention them, and thus implicitly supports them. Everything else was conspiracy theories. Trump had the chance to clearly call this what it was, and he chose not to. A reminder of what David Duke, an ex-KKK leader, said: “Donald Trump is talking implicitly. I’m talking explicitly.”
So, to be clear.

Unlike the freaked out Dems, and their freaked out supporters, I thought Trump's response was well measured.
Of course he was referring to those that were cited today.
When Trump speaks ... Dems and their freaked out supporters, crucify him.
When Trump doesn't speak ... Dems and their freaked out supporters, crucify him.

I would tend to agree that Trump was not forceful enough in his condemnation. However, I do agree that hatred and bigotry has come from all sides some of which we have seen on this very forum. Today a more direct condemnation of white supremecists and neo nazis was apparently forthcoming from the president. All of Trump's grandchildren are Jewish, the idea that he would advocate groups like the Neonazis or the KKK is nonsense. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017...a-rallies.html
