Étoiles montantes / Quebec Young Stars / Wei Lai Zhi Xing 未来之星 chess tournament
Rated: FIDE / CFC / FQE / CMA
In collaboration with the Chess ‘n Math Association and the Fédération québécoise des échecs
A unique chance for juniors and adults alike to play eight (8) FIDE-rated games of Standard chess within a fortnight. Quebec juniors remain FIDE- and CFC-underrated compared to their counterparts in the USA and the rest of Canada. The appetite is insatiable for tournaments designed to address this rating gap and to position our young stars better for the national and international events. This new tournament from the Étoiles montantes / Quebec Young Stars / Wei Lai Zhi Xing series gives our juniors a chance to boost their FIDE ratings, to increase their CFC ratings ahead of the January 01 deadline for the lists of top-10 Canada-wide players who would qualify for the CYCC nationwide – and to win cash prizes. Adult players : Don’t shy away from the challenge! Come to increase (or to establish for the first time) your FIDE / CFC ratings, to test yourselves against the rising stars – and to win cash prizes.
Format: Swiss system, eight (8) rounds. Generous bye policy: up to four (4) half-point byes available in Rounds 1 through 5 if requested before the start. Skip the first week-end completely, or skip early games on three days out of four. FIDE ratings as of Dec 01, 2017 are used for pairings. Players need to have valid FQE membership or purchase it before the start of the tournament.
Time control: 90’/end + 30” incr. starting from move 1. Bring your own clock. Forfeit time is 30 min after the start of each round.
