  • Montreal's Pere Noel tournament - with games

The annual Pere Noel tournament is taking place in Montreal with well over 100 entries. The first round was postponed/cancelled/moved due to a water pipe problem in the street outside the building, which forced the shutdown of water in the area - thus no toilets. A replacement site was quickly found about 2 km away, and equipment, chairs, etc. were shuttled there in time to start round 1 a day late. Unfortunately - while the original site was a block away from the Metro - the new site was 2 km away with sporadic bus service (in the -35 C wind - not many people walked). Rounds 1 and 2 were held there - but 3, 4, and 5 return to the original site (but 2 games Saturday).

These problems also affected the Woman's Zonal - which will end on the 31st rather than the 30th.

Congratulations to Bator Sambuev and Hong Rui Zhu - co-winners of the Pere Noel tournament. I think they each won $750. Crosstable:

Despite "these problems", the Women's Zonal ended on the 31st, exactly as it was originally scheduled. All rounds starting with Rd 7 through tiebreaks took place on the original schedule.

An easy fact check of an erroneous claim could have been done by going to the CFC home page which contains two links to the original schedule above the fold, as well as by consulting the emergency schedule posted in the CFC forum.
