General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
15. Have fun!

Re: 2018 Canadian Junior Chess Championship - Aug 8-12, 2018
UPDATED INFORMATION

Limited rooms only for the duration of the tournament. Very affordable.
Information will be on our website and newsletter this weekend.
If you need information urgently, please email to info@elevatemychess.com or gary@elevatemychess.com and I will send you the information. Please book only if you are staying so that you won't deny others.
- Almost 30 players on board now.
- Some players from British Columbia signed up which is a very encouraging sign.
- We also have one player from United Kingdom playing in the U1800 section.
- Remember that the dateline for early bird is July 15 which is only 3 weeks away.
The latest list as at June 22, 2018 will be uploaded on our website and newsletter tomorrow.
CYCC is finally over after so much anticipation with almost 400 players. Winners will be going to WYCC and WCCC respectively. Canadian Open starts today
Canadian Junior is coming next from Aug 8-12, 2018
We are closing on to 50 players now. Latest list will be update tomorrow ( website and newsletter ) There are a couple new registrations ( just now ) which will not be reflected in the new list.
One month to go before tournament begins and one week to go before early bird price goes up.
Please come and join us and make this tournament a success as well. We had 100 players last year and we are moving to a much better venue this year which is Humber college ( after feedbacks from parents and players )
We hope to win the bid for next year edition and make it an even better one.
Check out the link below for all the information and online registration.
We have players from British Columbia to Quebec this year and also a player from United Kingdom.
Our Invitational section features one of the strongest field in recent years to determine the two best players ( boy and girl ) to represent Canada at the World Junior Chess Championship later this year
We are closing on 50 players now and should be above 50 in the next few days.
Should any player who has difficulty in attending this tournament but would really like to play, please email to ghua71@yahoo.ca. We will try to work out something for you.
So far we have 4 confirmed players from BC and two of them are in the Invitational section and the other two in the Open section. A couple of players from Ottawa s well.
Please don't wait till last minute to register. Help us to organize the tournament the best that we can do for you by registering earlier than later. Save $ 20 if you register before July 15th.
Winner of the Open section will get to play in the Invitational section as of the then ten invited players for 2019 CJCC.
We have just touched the 50th players mark - half of our targeted players which was achieved in last year CJCC.
Trophies have just been completed and delivery in the next two weeks.( 9 beautiful trophies, 3 maple leaf plaques and a rolling trophy ( for the champion - boy and girl )
4 days to go before early bird entry fee ends on July 15, 2018. We are still missing players in the Open section. All other sections are adequately filled.
I would love to be called Canadian Champion irrespective of the section that i played. . I know that I will play in the higher section next time after I win the section that I played in this time.
We are closing on 70 players now with flurries of registration over the last 1-2 days. We hope to cross the 90 mark by end of the early registration dateline on July 15, 2018
Hopefully this weekend pre-registered list will be with the updated ratings ( CFC and FIDE )
If you wish to be on a standby/reserve list for the Invitational section, please write in to info@elevatemychess.com. This is in case any of the ten invited players withdraw at the last minute.
Cheers for Chess in Canada

We have broken our last year record of 100 players as of today.
We are closing on 120 players now. Still updating the list as I speak.
Entry fee is at regular price now which is still very affordable considering 6 games for U1300 and 9 games for other sections.
Great venue by great IA Danny Goldenberg with very nice trophies and of course the bonus for the Invitational section of $ 1,500 travel bursary. Winners of other section wins free entry fee for next year edition which hopefully will be run by EMC again.
This year, we have players from United Kingdom, Guyana and players from BC/SK/QC/ON and maybe NB/NS/AB
On top of that you get to see the cream of Canada's Top Juniors playing each other in a 9 rounds robin ( mostly live games ).
Thanks to all parents/players who make this possible by your registration and support as always.
It's about 3 weeks to go before tournament begins. I am really looking forward to the commencement of the tournament proper.
