    Hi Gary,

Strange that you would use a delay instead of an increment which is the norm in Quebec (and elsewhere). The time control you have indicated is quite fast (too fast for many of us who enjoy a classical time control game). At the very least, you could have added a 2nd time control increment of 30-40 minutes after move 30 or 40. Thanks for considering this.

I agree with Evan's post. Delay is an "American" thing...imcrements are used every other place in the world. I have never experienced "delay" outside the US.

I also prefer an increment. I know Bill Goichberg told me the reason they do the delay, is that he does not agree that time should get added back to the clock. Does the tournament get a special hotel rate somewhere, else, where would be a good place to stay?

The tournament site is in a mainly reaidential and commercial area...no hotels within a short walk. I'm sure there are plenty of B&Bs in the area. The site is also a short block away from the Place St Henri metro station.

A flurry of registrations from last night to this morning and we should have more than 100 players by now. Latest list should be out by this weekend ( still updating )

                      1. Top section looks pretty good with quite a number of titled players and strong juniors. It will be a very good experience for juniors ( CFC 2000 and above ) to play against these titled players.

                      2. We are aiming to have 130-150 players before tournament commence which is one week from now.

Thanks to ALL who have registered and support us.

Cheers for Chess in Quebec and in Canada

As per the tournament regulations, rating freeze and substitution of FQE ratings was done today, September 03.

There are 110 preregistered players. In addition, organizers received some e-transfers that were not accompanied by names.

If you have paid without filling a form, please write to EMC to make sure that you will be on the list.If you are not yet registered, don't delay anymore, register now, - the tournament starts this week-end!
