Tarjei J. Svensen - Congrats Iranian star GM Parham Maghsoodloo becoming World Junior Champion 2018 with a round to spare! He just won again and his 9,5/10 is such an incredible score that I am lost for words.

GM Maghsoodloo reached move 40 in a playable position but must have relaxed in the last 10 moves of the game as his position slid and his king position cracked (in the last round) and he lost. It matters not as he totally dominated the rest of the tournament.

IM Sindarov was amongst the leaders until he lost a tough game to GM Maghsoodloo. He was then .5 out of 4 in his next 4 games against GMs which brought his final tally against 7 GM's to minus 1 (just missing the GM norm) A tough lesson but lessons like that just make you tougher. The 12 yr old has amazing tactical abilities and we will soon see him as a top GM.

GM Awonder Liang lost to GM Maghsoodloo in rd 9 and then lost his last two games. A tough finish. This might be the key needed for him to crack 2600 and get to the top 100 in the world.

Bravo Tian Shi Yuan, FM Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux, Nicole Zhao and Isabelle Rodrigue! Ladies and young gentleman, you made Canada proud. Your indomitable spirit and fighting chess that you demonstrated at this World U-20 are remarkable and worth of wide recognition.

Shawn has amassed +65.60 FIDE rating points (unofficial calculation), which puts him above the 2300 threshold for the first time. Keep up the great work!

Congratulations to WIM-elect Aleksandra Maltsevskaya for a great finish that allowed her to win the Girls' U-20 title.

This is a remarkable young lady who already has a great track record in international competitions. I had a privilege to arbiter events with her participation last month. Her poise and perseverance make her a formidable competitor.

                            What is next for Parham?

He is on the Iranian Olympiad Team, at what looks like First Board.

                            and this:

Tarjei J. Svensen - Maghsoodloo says he will play in Tata Steel Chess B group next year.
