Eric played a nice forcing maneuver (Bh3, Be6+, rook to the 4th and then Rh4 followed by a king march and rook to the 7th dominating). Nice to watch.

In the B section GM Gabuzyan is running away with the tournament. He has 4 wins and 2 draws from 6 games and leads the field by 1 and a half points. One more win would probably wrap it up.

A draw for Eric today against Akobian. He's still tied for 2nd - a point behind Dreev.

GM Dreev got the wins when he needed them to win the tournament, especially a miniature as black against Lenderman in rd 7 (queen trap)

                        Fall Chess Classic 2018

                        October 20, 2018

                        From:

                        http://chess-news.ru/node/25194

Alexey Dreev secured his first place at the end of the tournament, scoring four wins and never losing.

Immediately after the awards, he shared his impressions with our site:

"I played for the first time in the famous St. Louis Club, where in recent years the elite have played. A very good club. I liked the chess atmosphere, chess on the nearby street too, and commentary on the games. Well organized. Maybe our club on Gogol is better, but they are quite different.

As for the games themselves, everything went smoothly for me. Had no problems; even though I was not able to win a won-game against Hammer in the second round - still not acclimatized . And then everything became normal, my head cleared up. In fact, I had not set any goals for myself before the tournament... I just started gaining points naturally

Almost all the victories were won in the endgame. I don't want to say that my opponents did not know how to play the endings, but still ... at this stage of their development there are many gaps in their knowledge.

Added 20 ranking points. I asked myself, “Am I going to return to 2700?” Reply - I have already been and that is enough [in 2011]. Is that so wonderful? I don't cherish any illusions. Of course, pleased that I played well with my 50th birthday coming up.
