Unlike the snippets of wisdom in the Scholars Mate magazine, these great books are organized as a teaching manual and should be in every school's chess club.

An old review of Winning Chess Strategy for Kids:

I actually read the December Scholars Mate yesterday and struggled to find one of the mate in ones. It has wonderful problems, but above basic lessons for beginners.

I would start with the CFC chess training manual that FIDE really likes or at least used to in the previous regime.

    http://chess.ca/sites/default/files/teaching-manual.pdf

The chess.ca newsfeed always seems to have interesting games often nicely annotated by John Upper:

I like Chess.com and chessbase.com which have lots of free material. Chesskid.com is very popular with the youngsters as well.

I enjoy the Elevate My Chess blog https://elevatemychess.com/

It would be nice to hear from parents on what their kids liked. I did a quick search:

I think large sites like chess.com may be overwhelming at first.

They are many chess puzzle sites like:
    http://www.ideachess.com/

    This old website is simple:
    http://www.chesskids.org.uk/chess.com/

I like the index of lessons, but cost will add up:
    https://learningchess.net/us/courses?cid=3

    A book of basic tactics:
    https://www.chesstactics.org/

    This looks nice:
    https://www.chessity.com/en

This playing site keeps coming up in recommendations:
    https://www.chesskid.com

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of kids who know how the pieces move, but haven't any idea of what to do.
Working...
