Its a very tight race at the half. Fabiano Caruana is half a point behind and is only 50% - 5 draws. Sam Shankland, US champion is -1 and 1 point back. Lots of tough fights which I like to see. Monday (tomorrow) is a rest day.

The leaderboard has finally changed. Hikaru Nakamura beat Timur Gareev and is in the clear lead at 4 (from 6 games) In the critical game Fabiano Caruana beat Jeffery Xiong and is finally making a move after winning his first game. Jeffery has dropped back into the pack.

Awonder Liang used nice endgame strategy to beat Varusz Akobian. Akobian's 3 connectors looked impressive but seeing deeper the passed rook pawns (both sides!) were more dangerous and ran faster. A good lesson and a nice win for Awonder.

Tatev Abrahamyan beat Irina Krush. Also Jennifer Yu won again when her opponent blundered in time pressure. Anna Zatonskih also won. So its turned into a 3 player race as Tatev Abrahamyan also keeps winning.

Irina Krush is not playing as bad as her results indicate. Although occasionally she is missing key tactics. Regardless she is minus 2 after 6 and wont be winning this one.

This championship seems to be a changing of the guard but Anna Zatonskih may still have something to say about that.

Irina Krush blundered and lost. This puts Anna Zatonskih in great position with 6 out of 7.

Fabiano Caruana is persistently grinding Timur Gareev and it looks like it is about to pay off.
