Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
It can't be said that GM Bareev got away with a Swiss sack, losing his first round game for easier pairings. No!! He scored 5/6 against the top 14 players, defeating the other two GMs and two IMs.
IM Samsonkin played the most of the top finishers, scoring 5/8. IM Noritsyn 5/7, GM Hambleton 4.5/7, and IM Thavandiran 4/7.
Players who played all 3 GMs:
Nikolay Noritsyn +1-2, and Mark Plotkin =1-2.
I am safely back home after a fabulous Easter Weekend in Kingston. What a pleasure to play in someone else's tournament! Although I was in frequent contact with Aris, Danny and Omar about general tournament matters, my duties as Appeals Committee Chair were quite light - there were no appeals. This is a testament to the competence of the Arbiter team and the thoughtful organization of the tournament. Aris chose a great venue with reasonable room rates that included breakfast. The playing area, washrooms and skittles room were all on the same floor. This made Frank Dixon's job as the Fair Play officer more manageable. John Upper operated the broadcast on 4 DGT boards without incident (the 5th one had a defect but it was still used.) It was the best run Zonal championship in my memory, and the class players could watch the magic unfold while creating memories of their own in every round.
Being able to stay and play in the same hotel is a luxury. I encourage all of you to mark your calendar for next year's rendition. Aris has created something special - an affordable 9 rounder with a good prize fund in a beautiful city. Only 350 more sleeps till the next one!
I think that plan is to have tournaments over the Easter weekend for the next 3 years at the same venue. The next zonal tournament is to be in 2021 and woman's zonal will be in 2020 and 2022.
That should help you planing your schedule and Aris will provide more details for sure.
Adding to what Hal Bond said, the parking was free, normally $20 by day. Making a 9 rounds under $1000 with entry fee, hotel, transportation and food is great. When i played to New York, i found an hotel near Marshall Chess club and i used to have a little room with common shower and common bathroom - 1 by floor and wing - for $180 in canadien money by night without parking.

That's bang on Alex, thanks. During the Women's Zonal years, we'll have a Canadian Closed section, again strictly for 2200 and up, which gives some chance of norms (an IM norm this year!)
And 3-4 Sectionals (2019 = U2200/U1900/U1600) I just got home after returning everything I borrowed for the tournament. More thorough report coming tomorrow, or whenever I next wake up.

I got them all from him. Everything was neatly sorted, etc.
I noticed the scoresheets were an unusual 5.5" x 11" (rather than the standard 5.5" x 8.5" (i.e. a standard 11" x 8.5" sheet cut in half)). Would there have been a extra charge for this non-standard size?

I don't know how the prices compare, does anyone care?
John Upper made the GREAT recommendation to have boxes that were bigger than usual, so that when players write their moves, they didn't bleed as much into the next box above/below.
As a result, and also including useful info like time control, the scoresheets were longer than "usual". Everyone seemed fine with them, and I trust the increased clarity helped with game entry.
The Organizer (me) expects they'll be similar for next year.
Great tournament, great organization and great players! Congrats to Evgeny Bareev for a well deserved victory and also Mark Plotkin for his second IM norm. I think Evgeny was getting warmed up and played some very impressive chess. Looking forward to playing next year. Thank you Aris!
