General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Month ago I posted a message at chesscanada forum, that players ratings sites had some kind of "virus". Thus probably we are now see the outcome when all search engines caution about issue.

Funny, I remember three weeks ago my Windows Live One-Care anti-everything software came up twice in the span of five minutes with a virus when I was accessing ratings on the chess.ca website. It has not happened again since then...
I'll repeat that the problems that the original poster is experiencing should be relayed to his Internet Service Provider's technical support line. They should be able to help resolve the issue either from their end, or by making changes to the client's browser. Some ISP's will only rectify issues with Internet Explorer however...

No matter how big and bad you are, when a two-year-old hands you a toy phone, you answer it.
Sorry Steve, but I don't have any additional toolbars and only the Java Quickstarte add-on
Hi Rob:
I just upgraded my version of Firefox to 3.5.2. I can presently get at the CFC page with the new version even though I have the security set to block access to reported attack sites. If you want to change that setting, it is a check-box under Tools>>Options>>Security.

(Talking to myself, I know....)
Firefox 3.5.2 has now got caught up with its list of bad sites and it now blocks me from accessing the CFC site unless I uncheck that security option.
It is a Firefox warning. No need to call ISP's or anything.

Steve,
The original poster mentioned nothing about FoxFire, therefore he should call his ISP to report the problem as they would be the best people to help resolve browser issues.

Yes I downloaded a new version of Firefox as well on the weekend. Since then I have had the error. It says it's from Google. But if I ignore warning then it goes there to CFC site but then if I want to do another click ie check my rating it goes back to the warning. There is a lengthly procedure that I'll look into tonight. I think I have to make the CFC site approved for Firefox to see it.
Thanks for the Help guys.
Today I tried to access the CFC site and I got a big warning come up on the screen. Reported Attack Site.
What does this mean has the CFC site been hacked again.?
No it is blocked for Chrome or Firefox because of a MonRoi link.

Old news... check the thread a little down the page "Is the CFC website working?" and I think there is a post about this on the CFC forum too by the current E.D.
I got the message for the first time yesterday but one of my computers, an old Pentium III, still has Firefox 1.5 on it. Obsolescence has its priviledges :D.

Re: IS CFC website working - Remedial Work Pending
Hi Garvin:
I have been advised by CFC V-P Stijn de Kerpel that the company who handles now CFC office functions ( in April/May, CFC " outsourced " its office/E.D. ), EK Gillan ( or Gillin - not sure which ), specifically Patrick Smale, intend to shut down the CFC Website temporarily in the near future, in order to try to deal with these problems. I'm sure we will be given notice once the website is shut down. Hopefully it won't take too long.
Hopefully this is going to happen sooner than later, since this whole mess reflects pretty badly on the CFC. There is also much updating/correction of the website content outstanding, and it cannot be done until the mess is sorted out - again incorrect content on the CFC website is a clear negative to CFC.
Re: IS CFC website working - Remedial Work Now Being Done
The CFC Website has now been taken off-line by our outsourcing contractor, EK Gillan ( or Gillin ) to deal with the virus problems. Here is the notice when you try to access the CFC website:
Temporarily Offline
We are currently undergoing some server maintenance, please check back later.
