#197 (Jeff Sarwer) and #229 (Julia Sarwer) were/are also Canadians. Both were under 10 years old at the time.

Maybe John Upper can share some memories of this event. I played in an earlier World Open in Philadelphia and it was packed. Upon arrival, Mrs Southam was wowed by the lobby full of chess players.

I recognize over10 GMs/IMs who had played in Canadian swisses.

Anand was young. How old was Reshevsky when he played in his last tournament?

Reshevsky was born in 1911 (as was Botvinnik). The most recent games I have for him were in Moscow, 1991 (he died in 1992).

Thanks Hans. My first and only IM norm. I had a 2600 performance rating but only played players to make IM norm possible. I remember beating Pinter Shirazi, and Ramayrat and draws with Igor Ivanov, Gruenfeld. Sadly this norm expired.
