Thanks John for that. It was a bit tongue in cheek on my part. Its hard to know what is going on when you are remote like I was. Its much better to be present on site and see all that is happening. Nicholas is an amazing player and fine young talent and so close to an IM norm performance (not in this tournament but with some adjustments) I will be as happy as any fan when he makes his breakthough.

With a draw in round 8, FM Mark Plotkin has secured the 6.5 points needed for his final IM Norm. In addition, his FIDE rating has gone over 2400 during this tournament, meaning Mark has met all the requirements for the FIDE International Master title.

... and with 1 round to go he leads the tournament, so $$.

Congratulations to Mark on the IM title! Well deserved. However I personally think Mark is playing like a GM and I hope he is going to make strides towards that soon.

Congrats to IM Plotkin. It's great to see one of these norm tournaments actually produce a norm to a deserving master.
