Our two Canadian norm seekers FM Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux and FM Rohan Talukdar both won their first game!

        Hi Steve,

All norm seekers need 6.5/9 for an IM norm, with the exception of FM Dagur Ragnarsson who needs 7/9.

Williams - Posthuma fascinating game. Many unusual moves. I particularly enjoyed the bishop and knight exchange by white for the rook and pawns and then the king walk f3, e4, d5 and the potential trapping around the black bishop and knight.

Jason Liang is still perfect with 5/5 and only needs 1.5/4 for the IM norm!

Now 6 and a draw which should be IM norm and clear first with two rounds to spare. Congratulations and fabulous result!

The rd 8 Posthuma - Liang game (rd 8) was particularly fascinating. Between moves 14 to 29 Black's central pawns and active central piece play made it a pleasure to try and predict next moves.

Williams - Talukdar ended in some heavy hitting.

The two Canadian norm hunters encounter each other in the last round. Ive never encountered Be6 in that variation of the Caro-Kann. Interesting.

The tournament ended with two interesting endgames. Vigorito - Williams may have looked winning but ended with the sacrifce of the black bishop which created the well known bishop and wrong coloured rook pawn draw.

Liang - Ragnarsson was a long closed game. When White played his break through at move 72 it looked winning (and fascinatingly complex!) but it degenerated into a knightmare. What was the winning line for White or was there one?
