Just found out - sadly - that Andre Zybura passed away March 12. I dont know how long I knew Andre - much more than 20 yrs but he was always a source of chess pleasure and inspiration for me. Team mates on many different teams and always meeting at tournaments he loved to share anecdotes and stories. Andre was an avid attacking player - his joy lay in the attack and counterattack. https://erbgood.com/tribute/details/.../obituary.html

Very sad news. Andre was a friendly and interesting person that I met at many tournaments. He was a good attacking player and went in just one direction when playing chess - forward! At the 2014 Canadian Seniors he caught me in one of his tactics and I was relieved to escape with a draw. He played in the 2019 Canadian 65+ Championship and placed 3rd with 5/7, despite his serious condition. Rest in peace.

I didn't know Andre well but I do remember his love of the game. At a tournament in Brantford in the late '90s, Andre would do laps around the outside of the building between rounds.to clear the cobwebs. As he walked he read Mednis's How Karpov Wins. I could hear him laughing once or twice every lap as his delight at some move by Karpov overtook him."We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office." - Aesop
"Only the dead have seen the end of war." - Plato
"If once a man indulges himself in murder, very soon he comes to think little of robbing; and from robbing he comes next to drinking and Sabbath-breaking, and from that to incivility and procrastination." - Thomas De Quincey
