Hi Anna. Welcome to the forum. I'm a big fan. I didn't realize you had been in Canada so long.

I quoted you in 2017 about Epiphany bathing!

Thanks Wayne! I am glad you enjoy my work and I'll continue to do my best. I am still a newbie, just a year and a half in Canada :) But I am really happy to live here. I had to sit out for a year without being able to compete for Canada due to transfer regulations but starting this year I am fully eligible for the team ;) Had a long break in competitive playing though, but slowly returning to it.

              Welcome to Canada Anna!

You are the third Canadian WGM, This opens up a lot of possibilities for the organization of Women norm tournaments. It should also make it possible to organize the Canadian Women Championship in non-zonal years because if all three WGM are present, the tournament would be offering WGM and WIM norms, that would be a good reason to play in this tournament.

So, Canada made it to Top Division. Now we know 25 teams, other 15 teams will qualify from Div-2.

Among these 25, 5 top teams from last Olympiad according to Gaprindashvili cup (number of match points for Open team + number of match points for Women). All very strong teams - China, Russia, USA, India, Ukraine.

5 teams from each continent. Australia is a part of Asia for FIDE. Like in soccer World Cup and chess individual World Cup, it's much easier to qualify from Africa and America compare to Europe. Many strong European teams will start from Division 2 (Germany, England, Spain, Hungary, Israel and many others).

FIDE uses rapid rating for ranking. They take the average of 6 starters (2 Open boards, 2 Women, 1 Junior, 1 Girl). In our case, many players have FIDE rapid rating relatively close to FIDE standard. K.Yang's rapid rating is about 100 points lower, M.Plotkin has a gap of 250 points, S.Demchenko - more than 500 points.

Canada is expected to play RR with 9 other teams from Aug 19 to Aug 23. Top-3 teams advance to play-off. The winner of each group (4 groups of 10 team total) advances directly to 1/4-final. Runner-up will play against 3rd place in other group, the winner of this duel advances to 1/4-final as well.

Yesterday we play a training match with Paraguay. 9 boards, 2 games (1 white, 1 black). We won 11-7. It should be a valuable experience.
