  • The FIDE World Chess Championship Match confirmed for Expo 2020 in Dubai

Dear colleagues, I am excited to report that a difficult, pandemic-interrupted, negotiation process led by the FIDE management team under the FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich has successfully completed. FIDE shares the news with the chess community worldwide: the next World Chess Championship March will take place at Expo 2020 in Dubai this November.

"Organised by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), the postponed 2020 championship will take place between 24 November and 16 December 2021, and will see the reigning world champion, Magnus Carlsen of Norway, defend his title against the winner of the delayed Candidates Tournament, which is due to conclude in Ekaterinburg, Russia, in April. The two players will compete for a prize fund of EUR 2 million (AED 9 million).

The FIDE World Chess Championship will take place at the state-of-the-art Dubai Exhibition Centre, co-located at Expo 2020. The Championship will also include a series of side events, including exhibition matches and appearances by former champions and celebrity fans. With live commentary capturing every move, the match will be broadcast live around the world, reaching a global audience of hundreds of millions. "

Many other great projects are ahead.
