Levon Aronian was unable to play in the events in St. Louis for bureaucratic reasons, but he defeated Sinquefield Cup winner MVL to end on 4/5 after Day 1 of the #AimchessUSRapid!

Daniel Naroditsky, who said his main preparation was "watching copious amounts of Netflix and Amazon Prime": "I'm playing the King's Indian, trying to prove it can survive at this level!"

Some missed chances and Anish Giri ends Day 1 of the #AimchessUSRapid with 5 draws — not a result we've become accustomed to since he's been one of the most combative players over the course of the tour!

Levon Aronian is the sole leader after Day 1 of the #AimchessUSRapid, with Magnus Carlsen and Vladislav Artemiev half a point behind

        Standings after Day 1

        1 Aronian 4

I dont know what was more entertaining - Eric winning against Aronian until the final move blunder, Eric winning against Van Foreest until missing Qxg3+ (one immortal for the tactics books)!, or Magnus getting checkmated by Firoujza! Firoujza rules! Although I admit the position Magnus got in the Scando with the pawn chain I had before and won easily and Magnus should have won.
          Lots of entertainment.

Lots of long endgames (and this is 15 minute chess). I enjoyed Aronian over MVL and Naroditsky over Van Foreest. Rook and pawn endgames used to put me to sleep but not these!

Naroditsky plays a dream game against So! A feather in his cap.

Firoujza - Vidit - good sparring.

Aronian - look at those knights! - but the damage comes in the endgame. (All in rd 6)
