Has started. Well over 100 GM's participating. https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2021...-Shirov_Alexei The veteran Shirov is on the underside of a barnburner. What a game!

I enjoyed how Shirov saved himself.

Rd 2 and now after a nice win (Black took everything offered but ended up down material - how did that happen? - tactics!) Shirov is sitting pretty in the standings.

Rd 3 https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2021...redke_Alexandr Firoujza has shown that he is a great endgame player. He has a perfect score and is in first place.

Ivan Saric, the other coleader after round 2, hung tough and saved a draw in a long endgame against Caruana.

Hans , with Alireza , I disagree that he is a great endgame player. He will be, but not right now . His technique is not on par with his great attacking skills and risk taking. When he will improve his technique , and he probably will , he has chances to be world champion . Right now , I find that his endgame is a quite far from Magnus, Fabiano and the likes , Mind you, he played a great endgame in the game that you showed .

You're right I was a bit too enthusiastic. One great endgame does not make a great endgame player.

Rd 4 Eljanov - how did he get the bishop to d5? What a bishop outpost! Thats a marvel! Last I looked he had a bishop on g2 behind a stuck pawn on e4.

Jumbayev - lovely queen and two knight dance.

Grandelius - must have been opening prep but the light squared bishop was a huge force that just wouldnt go away. Pictureque light square domination.

Shirov and the art of the exchange sacrifice.

Jorden Van Foreest - nice game!

But he will someday, sooner than later, be a great endgame player, he has everything else ! He's a Fischer like talent that we don't see too often. He's got a seven game winning streak. That kid is truly amazing,

I agree. I really enjoy most of his games, hope to for many years to come and hopefully much longer than Fischer.

durarbayli-jobava was interesting to say the least - i think time trouble was the issue there for both players
