        GM Hikaru Nakamura...

Seeing the World Rapid Championship go from 15 rounds to 13 was an oddity, but seeing these tiebreak rules for a "World Championship" is beyond laughable.

          GM Magnus Carlsen...

Congratulations to 17-year-old Nodirbek Abdusattorov on winning the 2021 World Rapid Championship! He beat Magnus Carlsen in rapid chess and then Ian Nepomniachtchi in a blitz playoff:

assuming the tiebreak rules are logical (which they aren't), why wouldn't Carlsen and Fabi at least have a playoff for the bronze?

nodirbek is the deserving winner anyway so no big deal to me

GM Magnus Carlsen speaking to NRK with a rant lasting several minutes about why he thinks the tiebreak rules in this event are unfair. "I just don't think this is fair. It has to be changed." and "It's just too amateurish in a world championship." Also saying he thinks the rule about a playoff for only the top two with the same amount of points is "completely idiotic".

Abdusattarov won a very nice game against Carlsen. That was rd 10? and I said to myself he's having a hot day and sure enough he did it! WoW! and great news. Upset all the usuals in more ways than one!

Every rule, announced before the start, which treats equally all participants, is absolutely fair.

Why? Just because the rules has been announced?

And I assume you're referring to this ...

"4.3.2.2. If there is a tie for the 1st place, the top two players in the rankings as per Article 4.3.2.1 shall play a play-off match to determine the World Rapid / World Blitz Champion."

Many FIDE tournaments have no play-off at all. Including candidates-2013, there Carlsen got the first place by better tie-break (against Kramnik).

Actually, Buchholtz is likely the most logical and fair tie-break in swiss tournaments.
