General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
I watched the Yosha video. Then browsed the reddit thread. A quote from the reddit thread that resonated strongly with me: "I have a background in math and if I know one thing it's that probability theory is hard. I took probability theory and measure theory (still have nightmares from that), and if I know one thing it's this: Probability theory is counter intuitive".
I don't know if Niemann cheated. But I'd wager that Ken Regan's understanding of probability is considerably better than Yosha's. She made some obvious mistakes, as reddit user ikanhear points out.
A few aspects of Carlsen's erratic behavior are super telling.
Carlsen tried the rare 4.g3 Nimzo, he made an early mistake which resulted in an unpleasant endgame.
Carlsen when asked in a public interview gave Niemann, and his crew, a very favorable and very public valuation of Niemann's impressive play.
Carlsen's latest comment failed prove Niemann cheated.
Is it time to drag Carlsen and chesscom into court?
For normal criminal investigations the police look for both motive and opportunity. If Neimann cheated his motive is obvious, but what about opportunity? In other words, how the hell does he do it given the anti-cheating protocols in place?
I am beginning to suspect that Magnus threw the game in Saint Louis in order to be able to start this whole mess. If Magnus had crushed Niemann in the game, how much credence could we give to the accusations of cheating? Would Magnus or could Magnus have even made them in the first place?
And even if Niemann turns out to be guilty as charged, the way Magnus has handled this is pathetic.

Essentially I think the takeaways are:
1) Statistically, there are different ways to measure accuracy and/or engine-move correlation.
2) Hans didn't cheat every game or every move, of course at his level he doesn't need to. It's about checking how much variance (compared to other GMs) there are over a sizable sample where Hans is suspected of cheating.
3) Non-statistically, there are a number of games that just don't past the "smell test". And only strong players should judge this. For example, his Ng6-g4-h2 computer-like maneuver against Mistra. https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=2123031
The crazy thing is - not only Black chooses to trap his N on h2 with no clear attacking follow-up, if Black were to play this weird idea one move later (for example a normal move like 0-0-0 and then Nfg4), it doesn't work. Because 16.... 0-0-0 17.Qe2 Nfg4 18 d4 wins.

Dr. Regan analyzed all of Hans Niemann's games over the last two years, including online games, such as played on Chess.com and their events, and his conclusion is there is no reason whatsoever to suspect him of cheating. The wide range of results in a bell curve, with some good and some bad, is actually a sign of a healthy distribution of results. Many of the so-called points of suspicion are in fact quite normal and suspicion is really the result of faulty analysis by zealous amateurs. Even online his play has been quite devoid of anything unusual."
As Yosha mentions Ken Regan's work we have a problem with the conclusion/verdict reaching from the statistical data.
With so many Nieman OTB games in 2020 and 2021 reaching 100% correlation to engine moves, statistically you can say not enough data.
My conclusion is that there is cheating.
Time to revise how cheating statistics are viewed. This is a huge job and will need a team with more resources than Kenneth Regan has presently access to . I think he should be part of that new team.

Looks like I will not cancel my chess.com membership after all.
Carlsen and chess.com knew about Nieman before St Louis tournament.
I call on FIDE to revoke Hans Niemans' GM title and forbid him from playing any FIDE rated tournament.
This is pretty sufficient evidence Hans cheated.
Probability don't lie. Hans games over the past 3 years are being compared with accuracy of prime Fischer games and Feller (who cheated years back) games.
I was convinced after his ridiculous interview after the Firouzja game in St Louis. Now Carlsen's is saying he wasn't even concentrating during their game?
That's just too much.
"Probability don't lie" ?? Probability NOTEQUAL Certainty

Probably @MagnusCarlsen should retire and get on some FIDE commission on cheating. Awaiting the next player Magnus will cancel because they may be cheating. I never thought I’d see the day when the World Champion was such a cry-baby. Dizziness due to success.
