  • Magnus Carlsen has 4.5/5!!!

So far the only player at Nanjing to have any wins after four rounds is Magnus Carlsen, and he just beat Timour Radjabov in round five after Radjabov blundered with 23...O-O.

Ah to have Gary Kasparov in one's corner...
No matter how big and bad you are, when a two-year-old hands you a toy phone, you answer it.

As it stands at the halfway point, Magnus Carlsen continues to be the only player with any wins. He has 4.5/5, a full two points ahead of Yue Wang with 2.5/5, meanwhile Veselin Topalov, Timour Radjabov, Peter Leko, and Dimitry Jakovenko each have 2.0/5.

Hopefully Magnus can maintain this form in the second half of the tournament. His projected rating based on the five games so far is 2791 so I reckon he needs to score 8/10 or greater to get to 2800.

Magnus now has 6.5/8 and is 2796 on the live rating list. 1.5/2 in the final two rounds should see him go past 2800.

Magnus Carlsen is probably my favorite player right now :) I really hope he becomes world champion someday. Working with Kasparov certainly has helped him!

There is no doubt that Carlsen will become World Champion. The question is, will he be the youngest ever...

If the FIDE World Champions are included ( I don't include them ), is Ruslan Ponomariov the youngest Champion ever?

It will be interesting when Carlsen becomes WC to hear what Kasparov has to say on the " strongest WC ever "!

He certainly seems to have FIDE's highest rated player's number... Topolov just seems to crumble when playing MC. V.Anand seems to have a better record playing MC though and seeing as VA is the current World champion :)

I also think that Mr. Kasparov will be very generous when he comments on MC (when MC becomes World champion)

So... he won again. And broke 2800. And scored 5/5 with white. And performed over 3000. And...

                      Holy crap.
