  • Who is the CFC's Oldest Active Chess Player

Mau-Seng Lee plays regularly in CFC rated tournaments in Vancouver. He is 92 and I was wondering if he might be the oldest player still playing in rated tournaments.

I believe Maurice Smith of Scarborough CC, and former consecutive CFC President, is a relative spring chicken.....I think he is only 89 y.o.!

I thought Maurice was 91 but you could be right Bob. Alex Knox is 93 - will be 94 in December but outside occasional visits to the Agincourt chess club I dont think he plays CFC tournament chess.

If this thread will allow, I'm wondering how many "active" (CFC tournament since Jan. 1, 2022) players there are 80 y.o. and up?

Can this be obtained from the CFC Data Base, or must we do an anecdotal count?

Sounds like you are getting ready for 80 Bob.

If there is enough interest there could be an 80+ championship. What would we call it? The Golden Seniors Championship?

Thanks, Hans, for giving me 2 years to get prepared!

I think an over-80 event would require a new format. Midway of every round would have a nap break.

His rating keeps falling. But he is still playing. No one can stop aging. He just faces it gracefully and slows it down as much as he can.

Let's plan the Golden Seniors Championship! In the golden Autumn maybe?
