  • Jonathon Berry mentioned in Moron's blog...

Oops, I meant "Resign, Moron!"s blog... oh well

Anyway, Jonathon, since you mentioned you don't read that due to the previous slander of Lynn Stringer, I thought you may be interested in the latest drivel on that site:

"content removed by original poster at the request of targeted person"

This is a new low even for Slaggett; what a pathetic bit of trash.

    Over the top again!

I agree with you totally Kerry. Spraggett's latest character assassination aimed at Jonathon Berry is "over the top" unacceptable. I was horrified when I read it, I could not believe what I was reading.

Spraggett owes Jonathon an apology, no and's if's or but's!

I must admit I only go back to read that trash just to find out if it *can* actually get worse. Sadly, it seems the lower limit is not known. I attempted to FLAG the blog (there is a menu item at the top of the page to bring Google's attention to certain types of infractions in blogs, but unfortunately all I got for my trouble was a cyber lecture on slander and freedom of speech and how Google is technically REpublishing blogs written by others etc.)

There is no obvious way to comment on that blog directly since K.S. disabled the usual feedback mechanisms. I will admit that I did NOT bother attempting to email him (in my opinion, that would lead to nothing useful).

That leaves me with exposing his childish and slanderous rubbish here where a number of Canadian chess players may actually hear about the antics.

No, I don't expect it to make a difference; don't wait up late for any sort of apology or retraction or anything of the like. In fact, I'll bet you a Tim Hortons coffee that you (or I) will soon be mentioned on the Moron's blog... (and not in a flattering manner I might add).

Jonathan Berry is one of the brightest people I know.

His contribution to Canadian chess has been enormous! If you do not believe me, send me an e-mail and I will gladly tell you about this exceptional individual. bevand@chess-math.org

Kevin has been living in Portugal for the last 20 years...perhaps his insight with regards to "Chess in Portugal" would be more accurate than his silliness with regards to his perception of "Chess in Canada" for the last 20 years.

I don't think anyone would care if K.S. merely ranted about the state of the CFC or CMA or FIDE, but the character assassination (slander should be 'libel' - mea culpa) is beyond the ridiculous.

Do you have to read this thread?

I could have provided a link to the blog, but I thought that it was important for people to see what is being posted without necessarily having to wade through all the crap (that can be done anyway if anyone wishes).

I'm glad Bob also saw the post; chances are good that the text will ever-so-subtly somehow vanish from the site soon... At least there was one witness!

There are (apparently) several people who think K.S. should be granted sainthood and he still somehow is associated with Canada; that is a shame.

Unfortunately, Kevin has mentioned consulting his lawyers re his postings, and I'm sure he has been advised of the difficulty one would have of suing him for libel ( libel is written; slander is oral ), here or in Portugal. But I'm sure he's not listening to them on what constitutes libel, since clearly he is guilty of this in numerous instances. But who is going to sue?

When Bryon's illness was announced to the chess community,Mr Berry was one of the first to respond.I understand he had just lost his wife to cancer but he took the time to send Bryon an uplifting letter and a supply of protein powder to help him gain much needed weight.During the whole time Bryon was ill,we never had any communications with one Kevin Spraggett!I guess it depends on one's point of view who is the uncaring individual here.

I think the CFC should take what they would spend on a new website and use that money to sue Kevin... lol -just kidding- :D

                          ...speaking of websites

So, I wandered over to Kevin's page, and took a look for myself.

Unfortunate and unnecessary personal attacks? Yes; sigh.

But there is constructive material, too. One that caught my eye, copied below, is a list of many Canadian chess websites, and Kevin's thoughts about them. He has positive things to say about a lot of them.

                          _______________________________________________________

                          Chess history:

I give high marks to S.Wright, H.Brodie and D.Cohen for putting together websites that deal with Canadian chess history (past and present). In my opinion, a community has to show respect to its past and its traditions. These sites give great photos, game collections and important information about Canadian chess.
