Rd 7 Abdusattarov bounces back with an incredible performance against Keymer (however I was not inspired by Keymer's king moves)

In Rapport vs Nguyen 22.Rec1 is a careless but instructive error. Captures first on c4 was necessary. As played Black gets to sack the exchange and the passed queenside pawns decide for Black.

Rapport, who had been the last unbeaten player in that section, suffers a miserable loss, and may now be out of contention for first place.

Pragga played the first half of the game well and was winning but then had trouble converting. Fortunate save of a draw by Gukesh.

Rd 8 Gukesh responds with my vote of the best game of the tournament against Keymer! Stunningly beautiful!! A classical opening that could have been played by Capablanca himself and then the fireworks start on move 16 with the classic pawn lever against the king f4!!! (note move 16) and every move thereafter attack! - including a queen sack (so as not to slow down the attack) This might end up being chosen as an immortal game.

Rd 8 The Abdusattarov - Maghsoodloo game is prime entertainment all the way. White visits the d5 outpost square with his knights 5 times before one gets hacked off. He then sacrifices his queen to open the d5 square again so that his knight can occupy the beautiful outpost. He is now one move short of the spectacular Rh7+ followed by Nf6+ and Qg8 mate but Black can attack as well. Plenty of food for kibitzers, analysts, and afficianados.
Come to think of it, being a kibitzer, what is wrong with 55.Ne7? Looks like lights out for Black and roses for the potential champ.
Abdusattarov finishes in a picturesque manner with a lovely win. Creative all the way.

Rd 8 The only fault I can find in the Navarra - Nguyen game is the draw offer at the end.

Rd 8 In Bartel - Pragga what is wrong with 22.Ne6? Thats what I thought White was playing for.

Abdusattarov moves up to number 4 in world chess ratings, ahead of Ding.
