It would be interesting to know how many still play chess, but consider their competitive days are over. Internet makes it easy for the ... "infirm" to enjoy the game. Perhaps old time players might be found on the oldest of chess websites, ICC and FICS. People stick with what works for them.

            :)

You could jump ahead of me if you just invent a time machine!

But the obstacle can be: You know not the day nor the hour (sigh).

Looking at the birthdays on the fide ratings John I F Lukezich, Kingston, born in 1941 is active
Ruperto Frilles, Ralph Deline, and Robert Davies played CFC in 2020, Gordon Ritchie and Zdravko Barbarich played in 2019

I suspect Jacob Jones wasn't born in 1920, error on fide page.

When I was a teenager I remember seeing many seniors, some being members of the post WW II ethnic clubs. There were life-long players like Keith Kerns, Peter Avery, Ernest Westergard, and Zoltan Sarosy. And William Oaker, Ivan Theodorovich, Nick Zimninski and Milan Zagar.

These players were at least 50 when they played in senior tournaments decades ago. Have any reached 80?

                            Something rather amazing is happening........

I am getting feedback that this is an optimistic and inspiring thread.

A number of people have approached me (In real life) to say that they thought they'd have to give up chess when older. But that seeing these 10 Canadians, it is clear that if certain conditions exist for you, you may be able to play 'til over 100 y.o. (So long as you are not wedded to your rating ).

Nice to have something "feel-good" happening in our somewhat miserable current existence, eh?
