Alex, you probably heard, that FIDE has a new rule:
"Any player who arrives at the chessboard after the start of the session shall lose the game. Thus the default time is 0 minutes. The rules of a competition may specify otherwise."

Thus, what will be at the Holiday open: default or specific?

      Hi Egis,

We're sticking to the old fashioned rules for now if we can, of 1 hour before forfeit. Worked well at the Summer Open and in Bryan's Labour & Thanksgiving tournaments as far as I know.

How do you think parking will be? I'm a little concerned as its the week before Christmas and I envision a lot of shoppers taking up parking downtown?

            Hi,

Typically there isn't too much happening at University at this time (end of exams) and finding parking on campus should not be a problem. Details on the website:
            http://hhchess.sa.utoronto.ca/hhopen

As Ken mentioned, if taking public transit is an option, it should probably be considered. Even though parking on campus should be easy, the downtown in general should be quite busy.

thanks no can do public transit from Hamilton, I need to be home as soon as possible after the games are over for personal reasons, the same as when I take courses at Ryerson, thanks for the suggestion though, I'll take my chances with parking on the two places on your excellent map

                  Hello all,

Currently at 55 players on the pre-registered list.
Good spread out numbers throughout, with still a week to go.
IM Samsonkin & IM Noritsyn are at the top of the list.

I've received a number of questions regarding Team Formation and feedback / interest, but so far teams have been mostly incomplete or with conflict, or without a name

Here's a good example of a team that meets criteria:

                  Philippine Team:
                  Casareno, Erwin - Open Section
                  Austria, Federico - Open Section
                  Arandia, Henry - U2100 Section
                  Supsup, Ferdinand - U1800 Section

Each team must consist of 4 players with a maximum of 2 per section. Although we'll welcome Teams Registration on-site on December 18th, it's probably a good idea to make connections in advance, like the organized gentlemen above.

                  See you all next Friday,

                    Re: Cap = 110

                    Hi all,

Registrations are going up very fast (76 now), and it's very possible we'll reach 100+. I was not able to book an additional room, and the Debates Room at Hart House will only accommodate 100-110 comfortably.
We are therefore forced to place a cap of 110 players maximum to ensure proper playing conditions to those who participate. Apologies for the short notice,

                    Alex Ferreira

99 pre-registrations as of 3:00 AM this morning - looks like they won't be taking on-site entries on Friday night if this keeps up !

Alex advised me that as of early this morning ( 2:00 AM ), Thursday, Dec. 17, he had 107 pre-registrations, with a cap of 110. Whether anyone can get in on-site, will likely depend on whether any of the unpaid pre-regs don't show up. Alex has now stopped distributing flyers for the tournament.

This is great... Now all we need to do is avoid last year's apocalyptic snow storm and we'll have a great tournament.
