    EM-Aug 23rd -GrandPri-8 Top-3 from each section

    GP-8 Tournament Summary

Open Section: Brian with a 2000+ rating was untouchable with 4/4

Brian Profit won the Open with some tough fights given by Runner-up Leliveld Andrew and 3rd placed Anirud Chakkoli

The Open Section was tough and was very competitive. The Game between Brian and Andrew in the 3rd round after both scored 2/2 in their opening matches was more of a decider. Brian showed his experience although Andrew was resilient but eventually had to cave in.

    Champion: Brian Profit (4/4)
Brian was consistent and ruthless throughout, utilized his experience to the fore to be the winner. .

    Runner-up Tied: Andrew Leliveld (3/4)
Andrew had a last Round challenging encounter with Pushkar. It was a closed drawing position but Andrew on the attack and Pushkar in defence. It was a slow churn of positional play, weakening Pushkar’s defence and eventually Andrew was able to squeeze out the win

    Third Place: Chakkoli, Anirud (2/4)
Anirud, a product of EM had a bad day with an opening loss to Antonio in an acute time pressure having an equal position. In the last round, he misplayed the opening with Brian to get into a passive position and eventually lost

U1900 Section: 3 Tied for 1st place - Pushkar, Antoni and Siddharth

Champion: Kolhatkar Pushkar, Frolov Antoni and Nikul Siddharth (2/4)

Although the honours are shared amongst the 3, but Pushkar gave a tough fight in his loses. Especially his game against Andrew went to the wire and also in the strong fight he showed against Brian

Antoni played well above his rating in all his good games. Having a very good rating in Rapid/Blitz but with not much of games under Rapid, his patience was personified with win against Anirud

Siddharth played against top players Brian and Anirud and lost but his wins against others made him a worthy champion

U1200 Section: Aguilar Toyofuku, Santiago makes merry with 5/5!
