                          Updates on EM-May17th-GP-2

                          May 17th - GrandPri-2 Results

                          Tournament Highlights

                          Open Section

The Open Section in GP-2 Had All the Climax of a Titanic!

The top three seeds tied for first place in a dramatic finish, sharing the prize money in what became a memorable showdown.

Top seed Wajdy, returning to competitive chess after a few years, made a strong statement with his comeback. After a positional win against second seed Anirud, he faced third seed Shiva in a marathon encounter that stretched to nearly 100 moves and over two hours. A tactical miscalculation in the middlegame — and again in the endgame — ultimately cost Wajdy the point.

For Shiva, that win over the top seed put him within striking distance of a clear tournament victory — all he needed was a win against Anirud. But the tables turned. Anirud, perhaps fueled by the sting of his earlier loss to Wajdy, came back with renewed determination. Meanwhile, Shiva seemed to carry the fatigue from the long battle with Wajdy.

In their clash, Shiva opted for the Scandinavian Defense, but Anirud had all the answers. It was a hard-fought game, but in the end, Shiva’s flag fell, handing Anirud the win and ensuring a three-way tie at the top.

Though Shiva holds the superior tiebreak score in the Open section, the title and prize were shared — and all three are crowned champions.

This marks the second GP victory for the Father/Son duo, Shiva and Anirud — a remarkable achievement and a storyline all its own.

                          U1200 Section

                          Kayra Continues His Dominance!

Kayra maintained his commanding form in this section, securing first place with a crucial win over Dev, who was making his return to tournament play after more than four years.

Dev’s comeback had its tense moments — none more dramatic than his game against 9-year-old Mayank. In a match that nearly ended in a draw, Mayank showed impressive resilience despite being down material. However, in the endgame, he missed a key opportunity: with a possible threefold repetition on the board, Mayank misplayed the sequence and let the game slip away.

A valiant effort by the youngster and a reminder that even seasoned players can't afford to relax — especially when facing rising talent like Mayank.

Kayra's consistency and sharp play make him a deserving champion of the section.
