  • Brantford Ontario Open stellar job by organizers!

I just got my grab bag from the city of Brantford. Before I delve into it I have to say the best chess shirt I have ever gotten was right now from the Ontario Open organizers and I've received a lot of chess shirts and chess T- shirts over the years. Even my wife was impressed. Also I bumped into John Upper (the guy who takes amazing pictures) and he offered me another CFC ball cap. I'd been wearing them, about a dozen, over thirty years but wore them out by 2020. So thanks, much appreciated John! The best thing in the grab bag was a quality booklet titled: A Short History of Chess in Brantford! - 20 pages of interesting detail which was led by Toronto chess historian Erik Malmsten. Fantastic job Erik - almost 200 years of chess history. I was delighted to see Paul Simon being acknowledged (amongst many others). This one is a keeper.

Also in the grab bag was a pamphlet on outdoor adventures in the area and Discover Brantford (a thick pamphlet with great details) and keepsakes like an official post card of a statue of Wayne Gretzky with two fans with Gretzky hockey shirts oggling it. and a fridge magnet of the same. Collectibles I love them and Im an ardent fan of the Great One.

Also a pen that really writes smoothly and a small cute tape measure for measuring chess pieces and board size, always handy. There's more but Ive run out of time.

      Exciting find, thanks Erik.

It is amusing that, with all the NHL marketing budget at their disposal, the square on the right still turned out black.

Yes thank you Erik. Another little project in the back of my mind is to go and seek out Wayne at his favourite hang out and ask him about his chess experiences (when he is back in town)
