Hart House Holidays Open (Fri., Dec. 19 - 21) - Team Prize

In the past, there has been a team prize - 2 players max from one section; 2 other players from different sections; individual scores totalled.

It was dropped at the 2025 HH Reading Week Open in February. But one of the HHCC organizers said the intention was to bring it back in Dec.

We have checked out the HHHO website, but nothing is mentioned about any "team prize". We have written HHCC inquiring about this.

We intend to organize a seniors' team ("Old Pharts"), if there is a prize.

It takes time for seniors from outside Toronto to arrange transportation and accommodation for a Toronto weekend tournament. Some of our seniors may not register, if there is not team prize (An additional little feature that makes the tournament a bit more fun for our team members). So that is why we're maybe a bit fast out of the starting blocks on this (And we often are not too fast!).

    If there is a prize:

    1. I, 80 y.o., (Member) will be playing - U 1800 section - registering shortly
    2. John Monné, 94 y.o., (Member) is currently seeing if arrangements can be made - U 1400 Section
    3. Undriadi Benggawan, 72 y.o., is our "Back Up" (5th member) - U 1800 section - registered (Cannot play if we have 2 U 1800's on the full team)
    4. An invitation has gone out to a 69 y.o., and we are awaiting a reply - U 1800 Section

    5. An invitation has gone out to a 65 y.o., and we are awaiting a reply - Crown Section

    Stay tuned........

Hart House Holidays Open (Fri., Dec. 19 - 21) - Team Prize

Click image for larger version Name:	Trophy.jpg Views:	65 Size:	10.8 KB ID:	245084

Team prize - 2 players max from one section; 2 other players from different sections; individual scores totalled. This prize is a bit of work for the organizers, since it must be done manually.

Back Again! - It was dropped at the 2025 HH Reading Week Open in February. But one of the HHCC organizers said the intention was to bring it back in Dec. Since the tournament website made no mention of the prize for the HHHO, we inquired. This afternoon, Deepanshi, of HHCC, confirmed that the prize had been re-instituted for this tournament. We thanked them for the effort:

          "Hi Deepanshi:

          Thanks for the positive reply.

I talked to Alex [Ferreira, associated with HHCC] the other day [Thurs], and understand that the team prize is a lot of work, having to be done manually.

The team being organized by our Geriatric Weekend Warriors' Society (80+) has no chance of winning likely.

But it is definitely fun for the team members to wander around, look at each others games, and give them moral support.

We're pleased that you decided to bring it back!

Thanks for adding to the fun of your well-run tournaments.

          Bob Armstrong (GWWS(80+) Communications Secretary"

Old Pharts Team [Organizer - GWWS(80+)]

Assembling the team, player by player...........

          1. I, 80 y.o., (Member) will be playing - U 1800 section - registered
          2. Undriadi Benggawan, 72 y.o., is our "Back Up" (5th member) - U 1800 section - registered (Cannot play if we have 2 U 1800's on the full team)
          3. An invitation has gone out to a 69 y.o., and we are awaiting a reply - U 1800 Section

          4. An invitation has gone out to a 65 y.o., and we are awaiting a reply - Crown Section.

Unfortunately it is too onerous for member, John Monné, 94 y.o., U 1400 Section,to make the arrangements necessary to play - he lives in Brantford. Some other seniors we have approached are not playing.

          Stay tuned........

Bob I think you have the wrong Age for Ian Finlay He is older than 69. Maybe you meant Ian Findlay with a "D" and you may need to change the rating info as well for Ian Findlay.

The age of Ian Finlay is correct. He just confirmed it with me yesterday. He's indicated he is likely to join our group next year on his birthday.confirmed

As to Ian Findlay's rating: you can see that we put the date of the player's last stat check. I'll update it on my list.

Ian Finlay's rating is current - I checked it just before posting.

                Thanks for your interest.

Just the start of a correction, if I may. When I tied for fist at the Canadian Veteran's Championship in 2014, Ian Finlay was fighting for first in the Seniors (65+). Simple math tells me he is at least 76. I think, however, that he is older. (78?)

                        Hi John & Hans:

My apology to John.......I was thinking in my head 79 y.o., which he confirmed to me he is, not the typo "69". Don't know why I didn't get John's point re his age........stupidity, not age, maybe? Anyways, thanks to John for trying to alert me, and Hans for helping.

I've now made the needed correction to Post # 80 above.
