Good suggestion Hugh...will do...to me, the Captain, the other teams look very formidible!

It's quite unclear how we'll fare.

Also, we are splitting the games among members, rather than always playing our 4 strongest team members....will lower our potential placing.

I'll start the new thread with the Jan. 13 Rd. 1 result.

Due to our small membership, we have at least one member on the team, and then conscript from non-member seniors, to fill out our team rosters.

We would like to enter a team for their team prize (Again, there is no mention of this on the tournament details, and I will email them to confirm......it is never in the details and they've only skipped it once in recent history).

We form our team first of members, then seniors on our Member Waiting/Supporters List. It is first come, first served.

I have registered, will captain our team, and will register our team after Rd. 1 (Which has been the usual practice).

I believe now there are less than 20 spots still available.

We did register a team for their 2025 Hart House Holidays Open.

Our Seniors' Teams

a. Formation

We approached a number of seniors directly to invite them to play on one of our teams.

We have been fortunate enough to be able to assign almost all of them who volunteered to some team of ours at some time. Sometimes a senior was assigned to a team, but then had to withdraw......they are included in our lists below, as if they had actually played.

There is only 1 senior who has volunteered and not yet been assigned; he was unavailable to accept the invitation we offered him, but requested that we keep asking.

So in the approximately half year since we were founded, we have had a total of 17 seniors of various strengths assigned to one of our teams!

My error re the advertising of the "Team Prize" (Sigh)!

Deepanshi Matai of HHCC advised me that there is indeed a mention of the team prize on their website for the 2026 Reading Week Open; on this page: https://harthousechess.com/2026/01/1...ing-week-open/ ; you must scroll down until you see the "Other Info" heading."

So it is now confirmed that the team prize exists!

I did note to HHCC:

I know it is a rather onerous feature to offer, from prior conversations with you [Alex Ferreira].

But it is my experience that being on a team adds a whole new fun part to the tournament for those involved.

We spend time watching team member games, and as we silently watch, the other team member gets greater resolve to do their best, and is strongly aware of the personal support they are getting from the rest of the team.

This aspect is pure fun, regardless if destiny decrees your team is going to get decimated!"

We still need players for our team, and so another batch of invitations has now gone out to our U 1600 Conscripts (Played for, or have been assigned to, one of our prior teams).
