I am happy and excited to announce more stops confirmed for the Western Summer Chess Tour

Firstly, on August 7, The Kelowna Summer Rapid Championship will be held at the Kelowna Downtown Library in the Okanagan Region

Shortly after, the Whitehorse Summer Rapid and Blitz Championships will be held on Saturday, August 9 in the Yukon. Rated events are not common in these parts and I am looking forward to this being one that brings the local community together and encourages more people to get involved with chess!

Just a friendly reminder that the Red Deer Summer Rapid and Blitz Championships will be held this Saturday- for those considering attending, sign up now and don't miss out!

A great weekend on Tour with the Red Deer Summer Rapid and Blitz Championships taking place this past Saturday! It was nice to see everyone who came out- a fair portion of whom were participating in their first over-the-board tournaments and/or were from the Red Deer area and nearby locales. One of the most rewarding parts of doing a tour like this is seeing participants come out who are excited to play in their first ever over-the-board tournaments, as well as those who often don't have the opportunities to travel from local communities to attend chess tournaments

In the Red Deer Summer Rapid Championship, the winners of the combined Open Section were: 1st place- David Wait finishing with a perfect score of 5/5; and 2nd and 3rd places- a 3-way tie between Isaac Sajosh, Stephen Moreau, and Stephen Ejack. The top junior finishers, receiving medals were: 1st place (Gold)- David Wait (also top overall!); 2nd place (Silver)- Isaac Sajosh; and 3rd place (Bronze) Aryan Ranjan-Kumar. The bronze medal was determined in a sudden death, 5-minute playoff game after both Aryan Ranjan-Kumar and Aadhavan Kabilarmalai Padma Suresh tied for 3rd amongst juniors with 3 points each

In the Red Deer Summer Blitz Championship, the winners were: 1st place- David Wait; 2nd place- Terry Hansum; and 3rd place- a two-way tie between Stephen Ejack and Fred Durst

Another great weekend on Tour with the Winnipeg Summer Rapid and Blitz Championships taking place this past Saturday! It was nice to see everyone who came out- including those who were members of Naomi House- Centre for refugees. A special thank you to Pastor Tim of the Winnipeg City Church who generously offered the use of the venue at Naomi House for the special event and to both him and his wife, Sue, for kindly hosting me throughout- it couldn't have happened without their support

In the Winnipeg Summer Rapid Championship, the winners of the combined Open Section were: 1st and 2nd places- a 2-way tie between Arjie Bayangat and Rhailey Punay; and 3rd place- a 5-way tie between Julien Grassick, Jaimin Patel, Fernando Orcullo, Joshua Gerona, and Isaac Wiebe. Thank you kindly to the third place finishers who chose to donate their winnings to Naomi House. The top junior finishers, receiving medals were: 1st place (Gold)- Rhailey Punay (who also tied for top overall!); 2nd place (Silver)- Jacob Lam; and 3rd place (Bronze) Tanishq Umesh Patel.

The Winnipeg Summer Blitz Championship featured a limited but formidable field jockeying for position in a quintuple-round-robin. When the dust settled and the games were over, the winners were: 1st place- Isaac Wiebe; 2nd place- Alan Nagelberg; and 3rd place- Jaimin Patel

The chess scene in Saskatchewan is flourishing and has a bright future thanks to them and the organization! It has been a pleasure hosting this event and seeing the community alongside their support
